This page will be a clearinghouse for information related to the crimes committed by Columbia University. This page will focus on both the human and animal suffering that is being caused by this institution.
In 2003 a whistleblower veterinarian from Columbia University revealed grotesque abuses to animals in laboratories at Columbia University, including subjecting baboons to invasive surgeries and leaving them to suffer and die in their cages without any painkillers. While investigators from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the university’s own internal investigation have concluded that Columbia failed to provide even basic post-surgical care, adequate veterinary care, and euthanasia to animals used in experiments, the torture continues. To this day nothing has changed, Columbia University continues to keep animals solitarily in cold steel cages. These animals are then subject to barbaric experiments that we don’t need to be doing.
Recently, Columbia University has announced plans to evict businesses and residents who live in the area between 125th and 134th Streets from Broadway to the river and beyond. On a third of the property, it intends to construct biotech labs (including BioSafety Level 3) in which scientists could experiment with dangerous and potentially deadly agents such as Avian Flu, SARS, and the Plague. These agents are transmitted by air, are highly contagious, and cause serious health problems. These labs should not be in a residential neighborhood. There is no doubt there countless animals will be tortured and killed in the new facilities while putting our children at risk.
