Punk Friends in Recovery Together!

Well, you know, like, I don't really give a fuck what the general public thinks.

About Me

HI, MY NAME IS JEFF AND I AM AN ADDICT. IT'S NOT IMPORTANT WHAT I WAS ADDICTED TO (I DO TELL FROM TIME TO TIME IN MY BLOGS), JUST THE FACT THAT I IDENTIFY AND ADMIT TO ADDICTION IS ENOUGH.
THIS PAGE IS NOT ABOUT ME THOUGH... IT'S ABOUT US, THE COLLECTIVE RECOVERING COMMUNITY. THOSE WHO HAVE COME BACK FROM HELL AND TO A WARM, DRY PLACE. IT'S ALSO FOR THOSE WHO ARE NOT SURE YET... THOSE "ON THE FENCE". MAY YOU FIND THE ANSWERS YOU SEEK HERE AND ELSEWHERE.
"PUNK FRIENDS" IS ALL OF US, TOGETHER, FOR ALL OF OUR BENEFIT. I AM NOT "PUNK FRIENDS" JUST A PART OF IT... AN ADDICT NAMED JEFF WHO WRITES SHIT AND ADMINISTERS THIS PROFILE. WE ARE "PUNK FRIENDS" AND WE ARE IN RECOVERY... TOGETHER.
I STRONGLY ADVISE ANYONE WHO IS EASILY OFFENDED BY BOOBIES, FARTS, SEXUAL CONTENT, PENIS JOKES, FLIRTING, SICK-O HUMOR, TRANS-DIMENSIONAL TIME TRAVEL, THE WORD RECTUM, PARTIAL NUDITY (MINE) OR ANY OTHER SICK TWISTED THING I CAN THINK OF, TO THINK ABOUT BEING A FRIEND OF THIS PAGE. I AM NOT GOING TO CHANGE ANYTHING I DO HERE ON "PUNK FRIENDS" TO SPARE A FEELING. I'M NOT LIKE THAT. I STARTED THIS PAGE A LONG TIME AGO AND IT HASN'T CHANGED MUCH. IT IS RECOVERY WITH MY TWISTED THEME ON IT, A "FUCK YOU" ATTITUDE. I'M FUCKIN' PUNK ROCK AND REALLY DON'T CARE IF I OFFEND. IT IS, IN FACT, MY INTENTION TO OFFEND AT TIMES. IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS WITH ME, MY ATTITUDE OR THE CONTENT OF THIS PAGE GO SOMEWHERE ELSE, SOMEWHERE "SAFER". THERE ARE NOW PLENTY OF RECOVERY SITES HERE ON MYSPACE AND SOME ARE ACTUALLY REAL TOO. JUST REMEMBER, "PUNK FRIENDS" HAS BEEN HERE FOR WELL OVER A YEAR NOW AND ISN'T GOING ANYWHERE SOON. ISN'T THAT JUST TITS?

Now… while there is no requirement for membership to “Punk Friends” there are strong suggestions:
*You won't be offended by foul language
*You must have a sense of humor and be prepared to be made fun of whenever it suits me
*I have the expectation to leave rude, sexual comments on your pictures
*You won't be offended by the exposing of genitals (mostly mine...) and having pubic hair being cut and pasted to return messages and on your comments
*I reserve the right to call you "fuckhead", "dipshit" and other descriptive names, which can be repeated back to me if/when the shoe fits. Or even when it doesn’t
*I reserve the right to boot your ass off immediately if I find out you are a racist, a homophobe or a gerbil molester.
IF YOU TAKE YOURSELF WAY TOO SERIOUSLY THEN THIS PAGE PROBABLY ISN'T FOR YOU...
THIS PAGE IS A NOT MEETING. IF YOU ARE USING "PUNK FRIENDS" AS YOUR ONLY SOURCE OF RECOVERY THAN YOU MIGHT BE DOOMED. GO TO A FUCKING MEETING AND GET A PROGRAM.

PUNK FRIENDS IN RECOVERY TOGETHER IS A FELLOWSHIP OF PEOPLE WHO ARE NO LONGER FUCKUPS. WE COME TOGETHER TO SHARE OUR EXPERIENCE, WISDOM AND SILLY FART JOKES SO THAT OTHERS CAN SEE THAT RECOVERY IS REAL, IT'S GOOD AND IT'S FUN.
PUNK FRIENDS IS NOT AFFILIATED WITH ANY OTHER RECOVERY GROUP, ALTHOUGH WE DO HAVE FRIENDS ELSEWHERE.
OUR PURPOSE IS TO UNITE THOSE WHO ARE IN RECOVERY WITH THOSE WHO STILL SUFFER SO THAT THEY TOO CAN SEE THE FUN OF BEING ALIVE.
WE HARM NO ONE WHO SEEKS RECOVERY, WE HELP WHEN ASKED AND WE ARE HERE FOR EACH OTHER. WE NO LONGER SIT BY AND WATCH OTHERS HURT PEOPLE ON PURPOSE AND WE STAND WHEN WE SEE INJUSTICE.
WE DO ALL THESE THINGS WITH THE GUIDENCE OF OUR HIGHER POWER FOR A HIGHER PURPOSE AND WE GET TO LIVE, MAYBE ONE DAY HAPPILY EVER AFTER.
MISSION STATEMENT
Our mission is to get the message of recovery out there to any that care to listen.
"PUNK FRIENDS" was created as a part of our recovery program. We give of ourselves, and we get so much in return.
This page is not affiliated with AA, NA, CA, SLA, GA, OA or any other A. We do not speak for any twelve step program. We are not their voice, they have their own. We do endorse twelve step participation though; it seems to be the best indicator of recovery. It is our hope that you find a twelve step program that fits, one that works for you. Twelve step recovery is but one resource, there are others and some actually work. Anything that can relieve you from addiction is a good thing, as long as others aren't harmed.
Now, on to dealing with two important principles of recovery: anonymity and singleness of purpose.
ANONYMITY
This is a difficult one and could be a deal breaker for you. By identifying yourself as a friend of this page you are indicating to the MySpace world that you may be in recovery. Some like to protect their anonymity. We can respect this. Think about this before requesting or adding us as a friend.
SINGLENESS OF PURPOSE
This page is NOT a twelve step program, neither is it a meeting.
It is a place for us to share our recovery, and help to carry the message to those seeking recovery.
We welcome you all here. Please participate, this is an interactive site. Read, comment, write… it’s encouraged because it’s the “WE” part that is important.
This is recovery with a FUCK YOU attitude at times, recovery with fart jokes. Come on in, have a seat, pour a cup of coffee and stay awhile… Who knows, you might learn something along the way.
PUNK FRIENDS is about hope and recovery. "What I can not do alone, we can... together"...
PLEASE FEEL FREE TO REPOST ANYTHING I WRITE. YOU ARE ALSO WELCOME TO COPY ANYTHING FROM THIS PAGE FOR YOUR USE.
Many people believe that addiction to alcohol and other drugs is a weakness or lack of willpower that is primarily a moral or character problem. Contrary to this popular opinion, scientific research, especially in the last 10 years, has convinced experts that addiction is definitely a disease of the brain.
There is a major difference between addiction and simple use or abuse. People who use cocaine or drink alcohol too much can still exert control over their behavior. However, once they become addicted, their brains change in such a way that they cannot live without drugs or alcohol. At this point, they have lost the ability to say “No.”
Control is lost because the brain has changed in complex ways. Addictive drugs such as alcohol, nicotine, and cocaine can affect the structure and function of the brain. Just like in an electrical system, drugs can change the circuits in the brain that control emotions and motivation, impairing an addicted person’s power of choice. With repeated heavy use, the structure and shape of brain cells and the connections between them change radically. The brains of addicts are very different than those of non-addicts.
Of course, this doesn’t happen overnight. People begin using alcohol, nicotine or cocaine because these substances make them feel good. These drugs cause an increase in certain neurotransmitters (chemicals that communicate information between brain cells) that, in turn, produce feelings of euphoria and pleasure. Over time, with continued use, addictive drugs cause long-lasting changes in the brain’s pleasure and reward system. Chronic use of a drug to stimulate these neurotransmitters reduces the brain’s natural ability to produce pleasure without the drug. Then, when a person stops using drugs, he no longer can experience pleasure and may feel depressed and anxious. After a while, alcohol and drugs are needed just to feel “normal”.
Why doesn’t everyone who drinks, smokes or uses cocaine become addicted? Vulnerability to addiction is affected by many factors. Genetic predisposition appears to be a major predisposing factor particularly with alcohol dependence. Children of alcoholics are 2 to 4 times more likely to become alcoholics or drug addicts and more than 60% of alcoholics have family histories of alcoholism. Genetics may especially play a role in early-onset alcoholism.

The slideshow below is a sad one... these are celebrities that have died, directly or indirectly, as a result of drugs and/or alcohol. Some are overdoses, some disease. Some from suicide, homicide or other ways... Some were killed by addicts. Either way they are still dead, may we learn from them...

Some of the names or photos might be incorrect here, I apologize. I forgot the password to get to this site and I can't edit. If you see yourself here and you are not dead I apologize.

On the flip side, here are some celebrities that have publically admitted to a drug or alcohol problem and have done something about it. They are open about their recovery and that's the only reason that I put them here. Not all of them participate in 12-step recovery but as far as I know they are drug/alcohol free. If there have been changes in the "status" of anyone here or you know of others please feel free to let me know.

The Effects of Certain Drug Overdoses:HERE IS A LIST COMMONLY ABUSED DRUGS AND THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF OVERDOSE.Cocaine Overdose
The symptoms of a cocaine overdose are intense and generally short in nature. Although fairly uncommon, people do die from cocaine overdose. The exact amount of cocaine that causes an overdose varies from person to person and is dependent on a variety of factors including weight, metabolism, health etc. Cocaine is often "cut" with various adulterants. This increases the risk of overdose, since the purity of cocaine is difficult to determine. An overdose from cocaine can cause a serious increase in blood pressure, which as a result, bleeding in the brain occurs leading to a higher possibility of a stroke. A cocaine overdose can cause heart and respirator problems resulting in death.
Symptoms of cocaine overdose may include some or all of the following:
• Dangerous or fatal rise in body temperature
• Seizures
• Heart attack
• Brain hemorrhage
• Kidney failure
• Stroke
• Repeated convulsions
• Tremors
• Delirium
• DEATH
Crack Overdose
Perhaps the most dangerous aspect of crack usage is the high risk of overdose. Since crack is more potent than street cocaine, it enters the bloodstream more quickly and in higher concentrations. This is particularly risky since smoking the drug makes it difficult to estimate dosage. The most frequent overdose that people experience when smoking crack cocaine is on the mild side and is felt as very rapid heart beat and hyperventilation. These reactions are often accompanied by a feeling of impending death. Although most people survive, several thousand are killed by overdosing on crack every year. All forms of cocaine and crack cocaine use have been linked with heart failure in users, even healthy users. Crack is made from cocaine in a process called freebasing, in which cocaine powder is cooked with ammonia or sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) to create rocks, chips, or chunks that can be smoked. The term crack refers to the crackling sound that is heard when the mixture is smoked. Crack is usually smoked in a pipe. Because it's smoked, crack cocaine effects are felt more quickly and they are more intense than those of powder cocaine. However, the effects of smoked crack are shorter lived than the effects of snorted powder cocaine.
Ecstasy Overdose
MDMA or ecstasy is a Schedule I synthetic, psychoactive drug possessing stimulant and hallucinogenic properties. Ecstasy possesses chemical variations of the stimulant amphetamine or methamphetamine and a hallucinogen, most often mescaline. Illicit use of Ecstasy did not become popular until the late 1980s and early 1990s. Ecstasy is frequently used in combination with other drugs, which increases the users risk of an overdose. However, it is rarely consumed with alcohol, as alcohol is believed to diminish its effects. Ecstasy is most often distributed at late-night parties called "raves", nightclubs, and rock concerts. As the rave and club scene expands to metropolitan and suburban areas across the country, ecstasy use and distribution are increasing as well. An Ecstasy overdose happens when you consume more Ecstasy than your body can safely handle. Ecstasy users are constantly flirting with drug overdose, and the difference between the high they're seeking and serious injury or death is often quite small.
An Ecstasy overdose is characterized by:
• rapid heartbeat
• high blood pressure
• faintness
• muscle cramping
• panic attacks
• loss of consciousness
• seizures
• hyperthermia
• muscle breakdown
• stroke
• kidney and cardiovascular system failure
• permanent damage to sections of brain critical to thought and memory
• DEATH
Heroin Overdose
Heroin works on the central nervous system. The abusers heartbeat slows as well as their breathing. They may loose consciousness. Any of these effects can be fatal if the dose is too high. Depending on purity and the user, a lethal dose of heroin may range from 200 to 500mg, but hardened addicts have survived doses of 1800mg and over. However, with street heroin there is no absolutely certain "safe dosage". It depends on tolerance, amount and purity taken. Overdose can occur when a dose taken is greater than that you're used to. A tolerable dose for an addict could be fatal to a first-time user. Tolerance to heroin in particular is quickly acquired. Even occasional weekend users need to take more to get the same effect over time. Tolerance can drop. Some users have overdosed on their 'regular dose', after just a few week's break.
Symptoms of a Heroin overdose include but are not limited to:
• muscle spasticity
• slow and labored breathing
• shallow breathing
• stopped breathing (sometimes fatal within 2-4 hours)
• pinpoint pupils
• dry mouth
• cold and clammy skin
• tongue discoloration
• bluish colored fingernails and lips
• spasms of the stomach and/or intestinal tract
• constipation
• weak pulse
• low blood pressure
• drowsiness
• disorientation
• coma
• delirium
• DEATH
Methamphetamine Overdose
Methamphetamine is a stimulant drug chemically related to amphetamine but with stronger effects on the central nervous system. Street names for the drug include "speed," "meth," "crystal," and "crank." Methamphetamine is used in pill form, or in powdered form by snorting or injecting. Crystallized methamphetamine known as "ice," "crystal," or "glass," is usually smoked and is a more powerful form of the drug. A methamphetamine-induced "high" artificially boosts self-confidence, many users are overcome by a so-called "superman syndrome." In this state, methamphetamine abusers ignore their physical limitations and try to do things which they are normally incapable of performing. Meth is highly addictive because people often continue using the drug to avoid an inevitable crash that comes when the drugs' positive effects begin to wear off. Even first time users experience many of meth's negative effects. A toxic reaction (or overdose) can occur at relatively low levels, 50 milligrams of pure Meth for a non-tolerant user. Metabolic rates vary from person to person, and the strength of the Meth varies from batch to batch, so there is no way of stating a "safe" level of use. Because stimulants effect the body's cardiovascular and temperature-regulating systems, physical exertion increases the hazards of Meth use.
Symptoms of a Meth overdose include:
• sudden and dangerous increase in blood pressure
• dangerous rise in body temperature
• sweating
• user could see spots (due to pressure on the nerves of eye)
• chances of heart attack, stroke, or coma.
• high fever
• convulsions
• cardiovascular collapse
• DEATH
Methadone Overdose
In 1992 there were 131 deaths attributed directly to methadone overdose. Methadone is relatively available on the illicit market as there are large numbers of tolerant individuals whose daily dose is well over the lethal dose for non-tolerant individuals. This may explain why, of the fatalities above, only 25% had been previously notified to the Home Office, and why methadone overdose deaths among people in treatment are relatively rare. Methadone is one of the strongest opiates. It has a slow onset of action and a long half-life and causes severe respiratory depression which is usually the cause of death. Methadone overdose is a serious medical emergency. In the event of suspected overdose call an ambulance. If the person is losing consciousness lie them on their side in the recovery position so that they will not choke if they vomit. Inducing people to vomit is not recommended because of the risk of rapid onset of CNS depression/unconsciousness which could lead to choking.
Symptoms of an Overdose from Methadone include but are not limited to the following:
• muscle spasticity
• difficulty breathing
• slow, shallow and labored breathing
• stopped breathing (sometimes fatal within 2-4 hours)
• pinpoint pupils
• bluish skin
• bluish fingernails and lips
• spasms of the stomach and/or intestinal tract
• constipation
• weak pulse
• low blood pressure
• drowsiness
• disorientation
• coma
• DEATH
PCP (phencyclidine) Overdose
PCP (Angel dust; Sernyl) is a "dissociative drug," meaning that it distorts perceptions of sight and sound and produces feelings of detachment (dissociation) from the environment and self. Dissociative drugs act by altering distribution of the neurotransmitter glutamate throughout the brain. Glutamate is involved in a person's perception of pain, responses to the environment, and memory.PCP is a white crystalline powder that is readily soluble in water or alcohol. It has a distinctive bitter chemical taste. PCP can be mixed easily with dyes and turns up on the illicit drug market in a variety of tablets, capsules, and colored powders. It is normally abused in one of three ways: snorted, smoked, or ingested. For smoking, PCP is often applied to a leafy material such as mint, parsley, oregano, or marijuana.PCP is addictive- its repeated abuse can lead to craving and compulsive PCP-seeking behavior.
Symptoms of PCP overdose:
• Uncontrolled movement
• Convulsions
• Uncoordination
• Nystagmus (side-to-side eye movements)
• High blood pressure
• Agitation (overly excited, violent behavior)
• Coma
• Altered state of consciousness
• Hallucinations
• Psychosis
• Catatonic trance (patient does not talk, move, or react)
OxyContin Overdose
OxyContin is a central nervous system depressant. OxyContin's action appears to work through stimulating the opioid receptors found in the central nervous system that activate responses ranging from analgesia to respiratory depression to euphoria. People who take the drug repeatedly can develop a tolerance or resistance to the drug's effects. Thus, a cancer patient can take a dose of OxyContin on a regular basis that would be fatal in a person never exposed to OxyContin or another opioid. Most individuals who abuse OxyContin seek to gain the euphoric effects, mitigate pain, and avoid withdrawal symptoms associated with OxyContin or heroin abstinence. OxyContin is designed so that the oxycodone is slowly released over time, allowing it to be used twice daily. You should never break, chew, or crush the OxyContin tablet since this causes a large amount of oxycodone to be released from the tablet all at once, potentially resulting in a dangerous or fatal OxyContin overdose. Overdose of OxyContin is serious and may require hospitalization. Occasionally, the individual needs to be temporarily hooked to a ventilator to help him breathe until the OxyContin wears off. Most people who are 'hooked' on this drug need professional help to stop using it.
Indications of an OxyContin overdose:
• slow breathing (respiratory depression)
• seizures
• dizziness
• weakness
• loss of consciousness
• coma
• confusion
• tiredness
• cold and clammy skin
• small pupils
• reduced vision
• nausea
• vomiting
• clouding of mental functions
• DEATH
Xanax Overdose
Used to treat many disorders from anxiety to stress, Xanax addiction results in the overuse of the drug to suppress unwanted feelings. Whether the drug is taken every night to fall asleep or continually throughout the day to remain calm, Xanax addiction progresses quickly and has become a serious health problem for many people. Xanax when abused is taken orally, chewed, crushed (then snorted like cocaine), or crushed (then dissolved in water and injected like heroin). Xanax has depressant effects on brain areas that regulate wakefulness and alertness, very similar in effect to alcohol and sedative barbiturates. Xanax enhances the action of receptors that inhibit central nervous system stimulation, and conversely, inhibit the action of receptors that stimulate the nervous system. In other words, if the nervous system were a car, these drugs help press down the brakes but make it harder to press down on the gas. A Xanax overdose happens when you consume more Xanax than your body can safely handle. Xanax abusers are constantly flirting with drug overdose, and the difference between the high they're seeking and serious injury or death is often quite small. An overdose of Xanax, alone or after combining it with alcohol, can be fatal.
Symptoms of Xanax overdose may include:
• confusion
• coma
• impaired coordination
• sleepiness
• slowed reaction time
• dizziness
• slow heart beat
• difficulty breathing
• difficulty walking and talking
• an appearance of being drunk
• unconsciousness
• DEATH
Codeine Overdose
Codeine is a member of the drug class opiates. Opiates include all naturally occurring drugs with morphine-like effects such as codeine and all semi and fully synthetic drugs with morphine-like effects such as heroin and meperidine (Demerol). Codeine can be administered orally (PO), subcutaneously (SC), intramuscularly (IM) and rectally (PR). Codeine cannot be safely administered by an intravenous (IV) injection as it may result in pulmonary oedema, facial swelling, dangerous release of histamines, and various cardiovascular effects. It cannot be administered intranasally (snorting). Codeine free base can be smoked on the aluminum foil ("chasing the dragon") similarly to smoking heroin. Codeine can be found in many medications such as Tylenol #3, Actifed with Codeine, Robitussin A-C, and Empirin #3 for example.
Symptoms of a Codeine overdose include:
• muscle spasticity
• slow and labored breathing
• shallow breathing
• loss of breath
• pinpoint pupils
• bluish colored - fingernails and lips
• skin itching
• spasms of stomach and/or intestinal tract
• constipation
• weak pulse
• low blood pressure
• DEATH
Ultram Overdose
Ultram is the brand name of the generic drug Tramadol (TRA-ma-doll). Ultram is an analgesic used to treat or prevent pain. Ultram is not a non steroidal anti inflammatory pain reliever. Ultram is not classified as a narcotic. Ultram binds to certain opiod pain receptors in the body by blocking the reuptake of the neuro chemicals norepinephrine and serotonin, it modifies the pain message which results in pain relief. Introduced in 1995, no control was recommended based on review of its uncontrolled use in 40 other countries. However, once released in the U.S., abuse became readily apparent. Ultram is addictive. Large doses can interfere with the ability to breathe, especially if taken with alcohol. An Ultram overdose happens when you consume more Ultram than your body can safely handle. Ultram abusers are constantly flirting with the risk of an overdose, and the difference between the high they're seeking and serious injury or death is often quite small. An overdose of Ultram can be fatal. If you suspect an overdose, seek emergency medical treatment immediately.
Symptoms of Ultram overdose include:
• skin rash
• itching
• seizures
• hallucinations
• cold and clammy skin
• low body temperature
• slowed breathing
• slowed heartbeat
• drowsiness
• dizziness
• lightheadedness
• seizures
• deep sleep
• loss of consciousness
Alcohol Overdose
Excessive drinking can be hazardous to everyone's health! There is nothing funny about the aspiration of vomit leading to asphyxiation or the poisoning of the respiratory center in the brain, both of which can result in death. Common myths about sobering up include drinking black coffee, taking a cold bath or shower, sleeping it off, or walking it off. But these are just myths, and they don't work. The only thing that reverses the effects of alcohol is time-something you may not have if you are suffering from alcohol poisoning. And many different factors affect the level of intoxication of an individual, so it's difficult to gauge exactly how much is too much Alcohol depresses nerves that control involuntary actions such as breathing and the gag reflex (which prevents choking). A fatal dose of alcohol will eventually stop these functions. It is common for someone who drank excessive alcohol to vomit since alcohol is an irritant to the stomach. There is then the danger of choking on vomit, which could cause death by asphyxiation in a person who is not conscious because of intoxication. You should also know that a person's blood alcohol concentration (BAC) can continue to rise even while he or she is passed out. Even after a person stops drinking, alcohol in the stomach and intestine continues to enter the bloodstream and circulate throughout the body. It is dangerous to assume the person will be fine by sleeping it off.
Symptoms of Alcohol overdose include:
• Mental confusion, stupor, coma, or person cannot be roused
• Vomiting
• Seizures
• Slow breathing (fewer than eight breaths per minute)
• Irregular breathing (10 seconds or more between breaths)
• Hypothermia (low body temperature), bluish skin color, paleness
• DEATH
