About Me

THE GHETTO FILM SCHOOL MYSPACE PAGE
Founded June 2000 in the South Bronx, the Ghetto Film School (GFS) connects talented young people to artistic, educational and career opportunities in the world of film and video. To date, more than 400 students have participated in GFS programs and workshops, coming from all areas of New York City to its South Bronx training facilities.
Each year, following a rigorous application process, up to 20 new Fellows are accepted to GFS' free 15-month program. For 9 weeks the Fellows are introduced to film history and filmmaking by shooting and editing their own shorts, which are shown at an annual public screening at Lincoln Center. In the Fall and Winter GFS organizes an Industry Practicum featuring workshops, group seminars, and internship placement in partner companies. Come Spring the GFS Fellows take on specialized roles (e.g., director, cinematographer, editor) in the making of a 15-minute long project.
