About Me

Rollin' Deep Productions is an independent, Latino-run film production company dedicated to creating original films that expose the human condition and transcend all boundaries.Cruz Angeles participated as a directing-and-writing fellow at the 2005 Sundance Institute Filmmaker's Lab. He is an Annenberg Film Fellow and the 2006 NHK/Sundance International Filmmakers Award U.S winner with his feature length screenplay Don't Let Me Drown. As a graduate of the prestigious NYU film program, Cruz has garnered various awards for his student short films. In 2001, Cruz won a Director's Guild of America Award for Best Latino Student Filmmaker for his short film Abuela's Revolt. In 2003, his short film The Show won Best Student Short (2003 Woodstock Film Festival), Best Experimental Short (2003 Deep Ellum Film Festival), and Best Screenplay (Festival Du Cinema De Paris) and was screened on Showtime as part of the Showtime Latino Filmmaker's Showcase. His award-winning short films have screened at festivals worldwide and have also been broadcasted by PBS, Telemundo and Si TV. He recently completed post-production on his latest short film, The Negative, a psychological thriller shot at the US-Mexico border and based on the folklore that photographs steal your soul.Maria Topete was recently named an Annenberg Film Fellow and participated as a writing-and-producing fellow at the 2005 Sundance Institute Screenwriter's and Producer's Lab with her feature length screenplay Don't Let Me Drown, a coming-of-age teen love story set within the turmoil of the 9/11 aftermath, which she co-wrote with her longtime collaborator Cruz Angeles. Don't Let Me Drown was also selected for the Atelier du Festival at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival and the 2005 IFP No Borders International Co-Production Market. She is the producer of several award-winning short films, which have screened on Showtime, PBS and Sí TV. She recently completed post-production on a short film she co-wrote and produced,The Negative, a psychological thriller shot at the US-Mexico border and based on the folklore that photographs can steal your soul.
