Influences: Varied: an early diet of classic rock, English folk songs, Welsh carols, orchestral, and choral music.
Gigging madly through the late 90s Indie-madness.
Guesting with the Eddie Martin blues band in Bristol.
Experimental analogue recording and 70s folk revival in Glasgow.
Reggae and dub, a hillbilly/country vibe and the strong African- Brazilian-Scottish drumming movement of the Beltane Fire Festival in Edinburgh. Wrote and performed a song with Amanda Palmer of the Dresden Dolls a while back.
The musical and personal motorcycle odyssey through Mexico, Guatemala and the USA was also illuminating.
Then I got a pretty lady to throw a piano off a cliff for the video to the title track of my album. It exploded in a very satisfying fashion. Keys everywhere.
Sounds Like: I have listened to some stuff. I have written some tunes. I sound like myself and an acoustic guitar. The album Heart Music Soul Music was recorded at T-Pot Studio deep in the hills of Scotland (also host to The View, Luva Anna, The True Gents...) and produced by Robin Wynne-Evans (who discovered The View). It was mastered by John Davies at Alchemy, who has worked with The Kaiser Chiefs, Babyshambles and the Zutons...and pretty much everyone who is anyone, really. Some nice people (well, I hope they are nice people) are reviewing the album and when they are done I will post the reviews. While we are waiting, this is what some other folks have said about my music:“Really wonderful … I can't praise it enough! It's full of beautiful, moving, complex and often fun music†Christa“Jack Johnson for compulsive risk takers†WD"I'm staunchly heterosexual but when I hear Thans's music I want him to carry me away to grow vegetables in a cottage in the country" Ed“This song bridges the gap between naive and sentimental art. Musically it tore me a new arsehole!†Steve
