For Ruin was formed in 2003 in Cork, Ireland. Founder John began playing a mixture of melodic black/death metal with strong harmonies, melodies and dynamics throughout. During 1998-2004, John wrote and demoed a number of tracks which finally found their way onto the split Meiche / For Ruin demo in '04.
Winter '05 - a second demo 'SHADE ' is completed. It featured 6 tracks of more advanced material than that found on the Split demo. Critics praised the release highly and in November 2005 the initial lineup of the band, completed an Irish tour with Mael Mordha in early February 2006, as well as a number of other gigs including an appearance at the 2006 Day of Darkness festival . A support slot with Decapitated followed.
November 2006- Murphy was joined by drummer Barry English, guitarist Drew Myers and bassist Barry O´Sullivan. The 3rd demo/promo 'Obsidian' was released in limited quanities, and was been showered with critics' praise and brought the band to the attention of many, including a number of labels.
The band filmed their performance at Winterfest 2006 in their home town of Cork on December 23rd '06. The result is the "Live at Winterfest" DVD, which was given a limited release in January 2007.
For Ruin announced the start of their relationship with Sentinel Records (also in Jan 07). The band supported Leaves Eyes in April 07 before finishing their debut recording for Sentinel in May '07 titled "December". The album will be released on September 15th 2007 and supported by an Irish tour during September. During August 07 the band returned to gigging, playing a warm-up show with Napalm Death before their tour in support of the album. Shows with Primordial and Massacre are planned before the end of the year - see you at the shows!
