Black Metal?

About Me

KNOWHERE was founded in Uster (Switzerland) in October 1992 by Zappi (guitars, effects), Kov (vocals, drums), Philippe (guitars) and Dany (Bass). The original style of the band was grind core. It soon became atmospheric varied black metal. The lyrics of KNOWHERE are neither political nor religious.
The first demo-tape was recorded in 1994. It contained seven songs and was presented at KNOWHEREs first concert in Oberglatt (Zurich, Switzerland). Despite the very positive reactions of the audience, KNOWHERE did not play another concert until 1997. This was partially due to the fact that the four band members had to fulfill the obligatory Swiss army duty.
KNOWHERE released their first CD Knowhere in fall 1997. The album contained four atmospheric black metal songs which had been recorded in KNOWHEREs own studio. Unfortunately, Dany left the band in October 1998. However, KNOWHERE found session bass players for the next concerts (at Z7 (Pratteln) and at Dynamo (Zurich)).
KNOWHEREs homepage (http://www.knowhere.ch) went online in 1998.
In 1999, KNOWHERE and three other metal bands founded the non-profit organization E.L.K.S.-Syndicate. This organization supports young underground bands and organizes concerts for them. In the meantime E.L.K.S. has become a permanent part of the Swiss metal scene.
In fall 1999, KNOWHERE found a new bass player. Arlette Eiselfe H.D. joined the band and created the necessary basslines on a keyboard. After a couple of months, she replaced the keys with a real 5-string bass guitar and thus the KNOWHERE line-up was complete again.
After some concerts with larger audiences and lots of positive feedback, Philippe decided to quit the band due to lack of time. While looking for a new guitar player, the three remaining members of KNOWHERE continued to play concerts according to their motto We always play everywhere!.
After a rather unconventional concert appearance in the cloister of the great cathedral in Zurich, Fuhli joined the band and brought new energy into KNOWHEREs music. This was followed up by several concerts nationwide. A high point of this row of concerts was the performance at Z7 in Pratteln on February 20th, 2002, where KNOWHERE appeared together with Dark Funeral, Tidfall and Occult, three internationally successful metal bands from Northern Europe.
In Spring 2001, the recordings for the second CD started. The recordings took up a lot of time since half of the band still had to complete their studies. The album was recorded in the KNOWHEREs own studio, however, the end mix and mastering was completed in a professional sound lab/ recording studio. The result of this work was released on January 9th, 2004.
The new album The Mascot contains eight creations of atmospheric black metal (without keyboards). Regarding sound quality and artwork, it is a milestone in KNOWHEREs 11-year band history. The 12-pages booklet (DVD-format) with hand painted artwork and calligraphic writing graphically supports the atmosphere of KNOWHEREs music.
Knowhere is a registered trademark in Switzerland, Germany and some other countries.
News February 2008
The pics from our last gig at Gaswerk are here in our album and also on our regular site at http://www.knowhere.ch
In other "news": we are still working on new songs. Bizarre melodies and weird words have found the way into our creations. The one we're tackling right now in our freezing cold rehearsal room (this sounds cliché, but it's the truth) is called "Furious Green Dreams". But of course we have other ones in the pipeline as well.
Still raging: We are participating in the Euronydead Records compilation "Against NSBM - Back to the burning Roots". This compilation is packed with 75 minutes of black metal from all over the place. It's out now and you can also purchase it via us - just drop us a message. Check out Euronydead Records' Myspace profile (it's in our top friends) for more details.
There is a video of our new song "Seven Winters" on our regular homepage at www.knowhere.ch. Check it out!
More Knowhere concerts are being planned.
If you are interested in booking us (wherever you want), just drop us a message.
