Formed in the summer of 2006, Back Alley Sally consists of four quality musicians. Supplying the band’s rhythm are Dan and Jay. Ever since he found his dad’s old four string in the loft, Dan’s been slapping out the bass lines. Jay first picked up his sticks around six years ago. The two had known each other for just over a year prior to the creation of Back Alley Sally, having been in a previous band together. When that ended Jay and Dan were keen to form a new band. With themselves fulfilling the roles of bassist and drummer they only had a singer and guitarist to recruit. Quickly their axe man requirements were fulfilled in the form of James who is Dan’s cousin. The three of them jammed together and created a promising sound.Three down one to go, the trio were now looking for their front man, someone with confidence, personality and the passion to perform, enter Lorenzo. The contrast of Lorenzo’s punk roots with the other three’s influences such as Extreme, Mr Big, Aerosmith, Van Halen and Pantera produced the sound that is Back Alley Sally. Inspiration for the band’s name and the basis of their first song came from a drunken encounter Lorenzo endured with a certain girl (no prizes for guessing what her name was). The band’s ever expanding repertoire of original material lead to time in the studio recording their first EP, capturing the funky, rocking, danceable, guitar driven essence of just three of the band’s songs; Livin’ The Dream, Back Alley Sally and the highly popular Mach 3 Momma. This EP coupled with highly entertaining and energetic live performances made it easy for Back Alley Sally to build a large local fan club, and has given them the opportunity to perform in numerous venues, including the acclaimed Soho Review Bar, The Astoria and The Carling Academy, London. With the attention received from the EP the boys knew they had something special going on so they scraped enough money together to go to Monnow Valley Studios in Monmouth where the songs Martian America, Smoker’s Will, British Airways, Mr Judgeman, Jimmy’s Gender and the awesome Rocked Out were recorded. Rocked Out is a tribute to many dead musical legends such as Hendrix and Dimebag Darrel.Recently the boys have performed at several festivals and entered a series of battle of the bands, winning 2 Welsh Finals. After winning yet another competition the boys won the awesome opportunity to support UFO and The Answer on the 1st July this year at Chepstow Castle Rock Weekend. In the 12 months since the band formed, Back Alley Sally has achieved ever increasing recognition and success and look forward to the next 12 months with a bristling determination and hunger for more.
