Cosmopolitan Rock 'n' Blues Road Show

About Me

myspaceeditor.it
Dave Baker is a natural show-man and fronts the band with a rough, tough blues belter vocal style that draws its strength from a powerful "raw-gut" delivery, that he injects into every song. He has a true feel for the music and this coupled to an explosive stage presence, which springs from the genuine enthusiasm he works up during the show, energizes the band and turns things into a jumpin' house party.
He has been around on the Rock Blues scene for a long time and like a good wine, he has improved with age! Born in Peterborough, England, in 1945, he started playing drums at age 15 learning and growing up musically through the period of time in what is now referred to as the British Blues Boom. He was influenced by the great British blues bands of that era: John Mayall with Eric Clapton, Cyril Davies and Alexis Korner, Fleetwood Mac with Pete Green.
Playing from the early sixties with rock, blues and beat bands, in 1965 Dave got an offer from a local outfit to play drums professionally on the German club scene. Riding the wave of the British beat boom created by the Beatles, Dave worked in various bands around Europe eventually settling in Milan, Italy in 1969.
There he started getting his first recording studio experience playing dates with many Italian artists plus TV shows and always playing live gigs with many bands. During this period Dave played on a number of records that eventually became big hits for major Italian singers and artists. For instance, he was the man that drummed the driving big beat groove behind Adriano Celentano on the smash hit ' Presencol...' and made a big contribution to the record's success. That record is considered a 'Classic' in Italy today and more than thirty years after it was first recorded it still gets lots of plays and coverage on 'prime time' TV and radio shows.
The mid-seventies saw him increasingly involved with the vocal side of the music singing lead vocals whilst still playing drums with various blues bands active on the Italian blues circuit.
In 1978 he formed "The Baker Street Band", where he took on a leader / singer / showman / drummer multi-role and with which he went on to cut three albums in the late seventies and early eighties. The band played literally hunreds of club dates and concerts, important blues festivals and TV shows in Italy.
He stepped out from behind the drums completly for the first time in 1987 to be full time vocalist and front-man with a band he put together to play the club scene in northern Italy.
In 1992, with old drummer friend Jojo Poggi, Dave formed "Dave Baker and Motivator" and started to work the blues scene in Italy and Switzerland from 1993 onwards.
