Art is what comes through the flesh ...

About Me

I'm 43 years old and live and work in Surrey, though I'm an Essex Girl at heart. I write novels, short stories and poetry, and I'm a director of Goldenford Publishers and Editorial Consultant to Mighty Erudite Press . I finance my writing by working part-time for my local University in Student Care Services, but I think it also keeps me sane.My website can be found at: Anne Brooke's website and carries a list of all my publications, the latest of which is Thorn in the Flesh , a psychological crime novel from Goldenford Publishers .Also available is A Dangerous Man , a gay psychological thriller published by Flame Books . In addition, you can buy Pink Champagne and Apple Juice , a comedy set in a north London transvestite nightclub, from Goldenford . And don't forget to visit the frothiest website of the year! . My second poetry collection, "A Stranger's Table", can be found at my website and includes poems on sex, furniture and boats - but not all at the same time. I'm represented by the John Jarrold Literary Agency . And if you'd like to read my blog, it can be found at Anne's blog as well as on here of course! Ooh, and I'd love to learn how to dance.

My Interests

Theatre, reading (usually crime novels and poetry), writing, golf

I'd like to meet:

Like-minded people; people who write; people who can talk about serious stuff but who can also see the funny side of life!...

Music:

David Gray, Classic FM, pop music of the 70s and early 80s (sadly ...). I'm also a secret Radio Two fan, but only if it's Terry Wogan!

Movies:

The Man from Snowy River, anything based on Jane Austen, Kurosawa films. Anything with Colin Farrell in. Or Alan Rickman

Television:

Torchwood, Lewis, Star Trek, Strictly Come Dancing, Primeval, Life on Mars, Midsomer Murders, Frost, Monk, Friends, Frasier

Books:

Middlemarch, Girl with a Pearl Earring, crime stories, poetry with guts. Also the whole of Murakami, Taking Comfort by Roger Morris and anything dark by Patricia Duncker. But please, please don't give me the Booker shortlist - long, dull literary novels don't sit well with me!

Heroes:

My husband!

Writers’ Forum mention and continuing the Battle

Had a lovely Clarins facial and massage today - utter bliss. Charlotte (the therapist) had to struggle to make some kind of inroad into my stiff-as-a-wall back though. And as she's on the petite side ...

Meetings, cakes and shopping

Good grief. Monday again funny how quickly the darn day comes round. Also annoying that I feel fine today, having felt like a squeezed-out sponge all Saturday and Sunday. Typical! Anyway, today, I ...

A quiet day

Really, nothing much has happened today. Though I have been feeling a sight better than yesterday, thank the Lord. I just feel utterly and permanently exhausted. Thus explaining this morning's gloriou...

Websites, review lists and the languishing author

A very quiet day today, people. This ruddy cold has really wiped me out all day and I've been languishing all over the flat making faint groaning sounds. So, a normal weekend then, here in the deep so...

Gifting, doctors and a surprise beginning

First off, I do have to say that actually last night in London wasn't as strange and scary as I'd feared. I did still feel that I was putting on a costume that no longer suited me, but it was okay. Pe...
