Strychnyne is defined as "a highly poisonous substance and is sometimes injected in small doses to act as a stimulant". Thus, the word Strychnyne defines this metal trio precisely: stimulating music that is creative, powerful and poisonous. Strychnyne’s roots can be traced back to Anson, Texas circa 1984 when three ambitious teenagers dreamed of becoming recognized musicians. The original line-up was Rene Flores on guitar, Noel Flores on bass guitar and Shane Trussell on drums. In 1990, Rene and Noel ventured off to deep South Texas in pursuit of higher education. Later in 1991, Santiago “Chago†Duran from Rio Grande City replaced Shane Trussell on drums. Strychnyne combines self-taught musicianship, formal music training, and a natural musical savvy creating a collage of music that can be highly technical, straightforward “pound-your-cranium†or melodically seductive. Their lyrics address controversial issues using both ethical and biblical philosophy evoking true lyrical meaningfulness. It is this culmination of music and lyric that gives Strychnyne an uncanny ability to be understood by all.
