A little bit of "OUR-STORY": Sputnik Brown has been cultivating itself
for well over a couple of decades...Oxygen (aka "Just Divine" or "ox the architect") from the
group started his professional career as a ghost writer for local talent
on the LaRhon record label in Long Island back in 1988. 1991, then known as 'Jonzhaft The
Psychopath', LaRhon records released his single "Groove To Get Down"
which is now highly sought after since featured on Japan's DJ Muro &
K-Prince's "WKOD: The Golden Era Of Hip Hop". Later known as 'Jon Shaft'
in 1991-92, he was featured as part of a group with DJ Smash (Hunter)
called Jazz Not Jazz. They put out a couple of releases on EightBall &
New Breed records and were instrumental in the development of the 'acid
jazz' genre. Jazz Not Jazz was part of a circuit called Giant Step which
performed at such venues as The Village Gate in NYC. More recently, he has done work with Doujah Raze & Scavone, and was a feature artist on the compilation from Deaf In The Family "For Those About To Rock".
Musa The
Penultimate (aka "Howard Lloyd") and Oxygen are childhood friends who
shared the same passion for the art. They both got their jump start with
LaRhon records CEO Elbee Bad in the late 80's, when Musa went by the
name 'Kid C.H.A.O.S.' & began recording his demo tracks. Over the years,
Ox & Musa remained tight, comparing notes, and upholding constant
elevation. Musa's first official release was with a group called 'House
Of Reps' in 1996, along side a couple of other childhood peers INCLUDING
his first cousin Tre Best (aka "Tres Monstar"). They formulated a
CLASSIC banger on the H.O.R. Entertainment label called "Why It Gotta Be
Me?" b/w "Smoke 2 Many Blunts". Musa and E The 5th have known each other
since the 8th Grade, connected through the Nation of Gods & Earths. They
TOO remained connected over the years as their love of the art
flourished, and their like-minds strengthened through unity. E Tha 5th's
genius began in 1991 with a busted Tascam four-track, pause tapes, and a
Casio SK-1. Collectively Musa, E & Tre began production on the critically acclaimed masterpiece: DCNY's "Hip Hop For Dummies" album in the early 2000's. The DCNY project touched several
charts, publications & hearts after its release with tracks such as the
"ABC Song", "Hip Hop", and "Castle" blazing the airwaves.
E The 5th and Slim (SwaggerOfficial aka "Slim Donuts") are
both childhood comrades bonded through tight family connections in
Brooklyn, NY. Creatively, they began formulating ideas together in 1994.
Collectively, they make up the duo known as "NEWSPEAK". Slim was also
part of a crew of talent known as Dead Poets Society during the
mid-90's, as well as joining forces with Roc Solid (aka Casino
Ballentine) from the D.C. area (with production from ROOT). While away
at college, he also linked up with a-alike J-Boogie (aka Earthstar) who
gave him an oppportunity to join his faction U SEE IT productions. Fast forward to 2006...Oxygen was introduced to DJ Shark through one of his longtime comrades, Mikey D (L.A. Posse/Main Source). After having their minds blown by Shark's skills, the crew IMMEDIATELY made him an addition to the family. Through natural progression, twists of
fate, and destiny manifestation these creative souls unite to form one:
SPUTNIK BROWN!!!
