A show that was birthed from the minds of Dialekt718 and DJ BlacKnight, the Return To The BoomBox Radio show was designed to fill in a void in hip hop that most people born in the late 80s and beyond fail to understand: what it used to be like. And then for anyone who got to enjoy what came before, a show was needed that could really remind them of what was the music they would hear at the parties.
"Return to the Boom Box means just that - going back to the days when everyone had their own ghetto blaster and played whatever they wanted to," saids DJ BlacKnight. "These so called hip hop shows these days provide you with all this new stuff for the kids, and forget about the past that gave them a chance to do what they do today. Were going to remind them that there was a lot more music before Bad Boys and Death Row Records. You can't just play a Slick Rick song and say you took it back. Nope, were going to use this show to help paint a bigger picture of hip hop's forgotten past."
Too often on commercial radio and in these so called old school mixtapes or collections that are put out, they barely stretch into the vast amount of artists that were active before the transformation of hip hop into a billion dollar industry, and fail to give the listener an idea of where it came from, so future artists can grow with what they've learned instead of fighting it. Frustrated by the stagnation of the art form, the two minds decided to take matters into their own hands and make their own radio show. And now with Jeff Strange and John Black joining the show with the realest sounds, they make it their mission to help educate and reminisce on the best time in Hip Hop: the true school.
