About Me

Captain HarmonicaBorn Aug. 20, 1964, the same day Phil Linz, shortstop for the New York Yankees, got in trouble for playing harmonica on the team bus after the Yankees had lost a series to the Chicago White Sox. Lead singer/harmonica-player for Horizontal Bob and the Pollutants, No Canadian Coins Accepted, The Urban Squirrels, The Moonmen, The Mysterious Blues Band, The Druthers, The Ferndocks. Former member of The Funspoilers, The Black Tie Band and Dream Engine. Has played several shows with Henry Gray, pianist for Howlin' Wolf Band, and jammed with Tabby Thomas, Chris Thomas King, Paul Sinegal, Corey Jon, Joe Beard, Colorblind James and many others. Opened for Bob Marley's Wailers, Johnny Winter, Average White Band and Leon Russell. Chairman and sole member of the Harmonicratic Party. Currently attempting to liberate the subharmonic universe from the evil rule of Buttonstuck, an uptight Chromatic Harmonica who's always out of tune.

Music:

I listen to Rock, blues, jazz, reggae, country, folk, Celtic, Asian, classical, hip hop, Latin, world beat, punk, new wave, etc., etc. My own music is new roots dance -- a combo of blues, rock, garage and country. Think B-52s fronted by Little Walter. Or Creedence fronted by Sonny Boy Williamson. Or the Replacements fronted by James Cotton. There, that narrows it down.

Movies:

Wizard of Oz, Citizen Kane, Searching for Bobby Fisher, Bill and Ted, Song Remains the Same, Easy Rider, Dazed and Confused, Waterloo, Some Mother's Son, Michael Collins, anything funny, historical or romantic. Animated movies as well.

Television:

The Office, news shows, Frasier, comedies, Austin City Limits.

Books:

U.S. and world history, poetry (Neruda, Williams, Norm Davis, Hopkins, Blake), religious stuff, pop culture, music bios, general interest books, popular science, basically anything that helps me win my next argument

Heroes:

Little Walter, Magic Dick, John Popper, Stevie Wonder, MLK, Jesus, Buddha, Daniel O'Connell, John Paul II, John Sinclair, all my loved ones.
