I am here for Friends

About Me

I'm Evan, also known as Papa Coyote. In early 2006, I pulled a 'Moses' and moved my fourteen-piece extended family from Upstate New York to Portland, Oregon.
By day, I'm a meek and mild Flash programmer and training designer, but 24/7/365 in my head, I'm playing music.
I play in the Afro-Zydeco band Papa Coyote and the Zydeco Ragamuffins. This four and sometimes five piece band plays zydeco classics as well as my funky afro/latin ska originals. The flash player on this page has my solo overdubbed recordings. The band space has some songs recorded with the band. We will begin recording our CD in late January.
Z'bumba
I play accordion in a killer Brazilian Forro band namedafter its bass drum Z'bumba. This is often called Brazilian Zydeco, though that comparison is kind of useless.
The Amazing Maelstrom
You can find the Maelstrom busking our accordion and saw act on Last and First Thursdays, as well as other venues. Broke Zydeco will be recording up a demo soon, and you'll be seeing us out around Cascadia soon.
Here are scratch versions of songs from the upcoming Papa Coyote albums 'Swamp Salsa Ragamuffin', and 'Unity and Harmony!'

Before Papa Coyote, for 13 years, I co-fronted the most incredible band to ever come out of upstate New York - The BuddhaHood. Here they are, after I left, playing one of my compositions - Old Enzyme.
Below is The Buddhahood again. This time, unfortunately, playing the memorial concert for my best friend of all time for ever and ever.
Anthony Edmund Cavagnaro (toe-knee) was the Lennon to my McCartney. Ever since we jammed Stairway to Heaven in Tony's living room in seventh grade, we have played music, written music, partied, fought, learned from, and played more music together. I miss my friend.
The night Tony was taken from us in a tragic car accident, I dreamed of him. In my dream, I had just watched the band play a flawless set and for the first time, he had found his perfect guitar. He looked at me as if to say, look at this guitar, perfect intonation, great tone, great playability! I'm gonna go somewhere else to play it for a while. See you when you get there!
Hey Tony! I'll help you fix our transmission when I get there!
Here we are without Tony, playing another one of my songs, Through the Veil.
Here is a video of my previous band from Portland, OR - Hai Karate. That's me in the back. At some point, I'll have more video from this fantastic band. (Kevy, y'all should move back to PDX, 'n we'll be burnin with the disco fever once again.)
