About Me

"About suffering they were never wrong,
The Old Masters: how well they understood
Its human position; how it takes place
While someone else is eating or opening a window
or just walking dully along;
How, when the aged are reverently, passionately waiting
For the miraculous birth, there always must be
Children who did not specially want it to happen, skating
On a pond at the edge of the world:
They never forgot
That even the dreadful martyrdom must run its course
Anyhow in a corner, some untidy spot
Where the dogs go on with their doggy life and the torturer's horse
Scratches its innocent behind on a tree.
In Brueghel's Icarus, for instance: how everything turns away
Quite leisurely from the disaster; the ploughman may
Have heard the splash, the foresaken cry,
But for him it was not an important failure; the sun shone
As it had to on the white legs disappearing into the green
Water; and the exensive delicate ship that must have seen
Something amazing, a boy falling out of the sky,
Had somewhere to get to and sailed calmly on.
- W. H. Auden

My Interests

"But, damn it, you're not gods."

"No. But have your gods ever saved you before?"

I'd like to meet:

I said "Hello Mary Lou.
Goodbye heart.
Sweet Mary Lou,
I'm so in love with you.

I knew, Mary Lou,
We'd never part,
So Hello Mary Lou.
Goodbye heart."

- G. Pitney

Music:

I have a record. You may hear it someday, on the radio. I want it to go out on FM, that's the only one that goes between the planets, but I don't think it's ever been played.

It is not a book of poems. It's more of a letter. To my wife and to the people back home who prepared me for this journey.

To be perfectly honest, it only says, 'Good-bye.' 'Go to hell.' Things of that sort.

Movies:

I don't see many films. I enjoy what I can see on the television, although many of them are quite violent.

Television:

Television . . . strange thing about television is that it doesn't tell you everything. It shows you everything about life on Earth, but the true mysteries remain. Perhaps it's in the nature of television.

Just waves in space.

Books:

I enjoy the works of many authors. I love and hate Victor Hugo, George Orwell, Christine Sparks, Robert Louis Stevenson, H. G. Wells and Franz Kafka.

Heroes:

My adopted name-sake is Isaac Newton. That was not really chosen by myself but rather the people I worked with back home. After learning more about him, I have become somewhat proud and comfortable to hold his name.

Nature and nature's laws lay hid in night;
God said "Let Newton be" and all was light.

- Alexander Pope

I admire all life.
