The 3rd New York Regiment, Long Island Companies is a living history organization based out of the north shore of Long Island New York, although we also have members in Nassau County out west, and Ulster County Upstate. We dedicate ourselves to trying to recreate the lives of these soldiers who fought for America's Independence as accurately as possible, but also having alot of fun doing it at the same time! Nothing beats the sound of over 1600 muskets going off coupled with the smell of gunpowder! The 3rd NY has traveled all over the United States, Canada and even Europe to participate in reenactments and special events. Most recently, the 3rd NY participated in the 225th anniversary of The Surrender at Yorktown, which boasted an EPIC amount of over 2000 reenactors!We have also done several film shoots for The History Channel, Discovery Channel, and a documentary for PBS which will be airing nation wide around Christmastime. Some of our members have also been extras in several movies including "The Patriot" and "Last of the Mohicans". Our unit also boasts 2 replica 18th Century whaleboats, which are used on special occasions, as well as a 1 pounder "Galloper Gun" ( a miniature cannon), and a replica of an 18th Century Grenade launcher that has the ability to fire a tennis ball 50 yards!We also do live fire events every spring and fall at the Calverton Firing Range. These events give us a chance to brush up on our marksmanship with 18th Century weaponry.Joining a reenactment unit is a great way to meet new friends and trying to escape the boredom of everyday life, while educating the public and trying to understand what it was like to live as a soldier over 225 years ago .you dont have to be into history in order to join! even if you just enjoy camping, blowing stuff up or traveling, our organization accepts everyone!
