About Me

"contrasting catchy, singable hooks with pain-laden lyrics, wedgepiece is a southwest florida band with depth. with an acoustic pop sound reminiscent of weezer, the guitar-centric duo of scot lade and mark marinelli treat local listeners to a wholly original performance that is indie songwriting at its most insightful."
coastalbeat.com
"From the depths of the steamy, hot, and muggy south florida region (Fort Myers, Florida), comes wedgepiece. Started as an acoustic duo by Scot Lade and Mark Marinelli; sounding like the misbegotten sons of Lou Barlow and Guided By Voices, yet staking a claim to a sound that is all their own - melody, emotion and lyrics that will stir a new voice in a stale dead world of song writing."

"I’ve never collected stamps before, but I collect fortune cookie fortunes. Fortunes are about the size of stamps, only I don’t have to worry about them sticking to my hands. After listening to the refrain of 'strike while the iron was hot,' I realized that I don’t own an iron, and I’m glad that I have polyester shirts. Alas, I forget where I was going with this passage. Scot, thank you for making me realize I need to do laundry."
the TLP
"wedgepiece creates back-to-basics indie rock that emphasizes lyrics and melody over power chords and double-bass drums. the songs are about anguish and the healing power of music."
fort myers news-press (4/13/07)
being stuck in the armpit of florida, trying to do the right thing (annoy all those around them) and not giving a hairy rat's ass about what anybody else thinks, wedgepiece creates music solely for their own purposes...which are selfish, to be sure, but never at the expense of honesty. mark is the younger, so his points-of-reference include more emo than scot, who being the elder, harkens back to the old school of american punk and hardcore. they found an odd intersect in the lo-fi and indie sounds of the mid-nineties and, though not in any way trying to copy them, arrived at a resting place of the classic DIY mindset and a modernist to-hell-with-technology sincerity. their songs are immediate, memorable; a kind of simple reminder that life is not to be sung about by machines or millionaires.
in this way we concede to the dubious forces of artistic freedom. let it never be said that wedgepiece is anything but fully aware of their own short-comings and biases. without these one may as well cozy up to a nice, warm fire and take in some steely dan with co-workers and fake friends.
wedgepiece loves all the artists we have played with (so far) including: code zero, kris roe (the ataris), sunset lily, scientist versus werewolf, vega under fire, gorgeous george, the prospect, later days, from the throne, social ghost, drawing maps, carnival of soul, mabus theory, the touch and go, chaefin, the cato letters, wonderful johnson, shades of gray, stones in a row, white angus, second head, pushmower, YCKABNO, funeral for a clown, the romance we find in movies, smegma, black suit white tie, destination: verona, dear sleeper, sunday punch, hero for the day, pop pop, man with guitar (sodium glow), glory daze, the wink & the gun, all or nuthing, crash cart, stratous, dolt, circling the sun (hell pass), invisible image, syfur, a stone for mockingbird, andrew stamps, this is a hymn, the absentee ballot, holy moly band, jami mercer, film with color, the brentford sound, retro light, obeastiality, the jean marie, a four story fall, zombie eats kid, kill the heretic, john d'zurilla, us vs. them, rosematter, joshua rueben lewis, prestige, aimee linn band, pilot light, skyview city, braunson, veggie love, captain number 1, tones, jesse thomas, mute vox, pond water experiment, red light district, stereotype, terry lynn, funk bone, a matter of faith, expiry, 16 penny, stump daddy, bletzung, charles mahon, in for the kill, ariel upton, luke and the skywalkers, gargamel, premo vs. the world, farewell, last of atlas, flight 107, reasonable deception, george martinez, slowmotion skyrocket, atrophy the sun, call it radar, three in one, set the artist free, project 808 and... a season of violence. support your local music scene or there will not be one!!!
