About Me

Eduardo Guedes, drummer, percussionist, author, educator and recording artist is originally from Porto Alegre, BrazilIn 1995 he completed The Certificate Program at Drummers Collective in New York City. After graduating law school at PUC/RS in 1998, he traveled to Northeastern Brazil to research and study traditional rhythms from the states of Pernambuco and Bahia.His music training includes lessons with Kiko Freitas. Bobby Sanabria, Duduka da Fonseca, Michael Lauren and Dom Famularo; Djembe classes with Michael Winberly; workshops with Airto Moreira, Naná Vasconcelos, Cyro Baptista, Jorge Martins, Scott Kettner, Cacau Arcoverde and Taiko drums with The Kodo Group from Japan.Since 2003 he has been part of Maracatu New York, Brazilian percussion and cultural exchange program, where he has been a featured performer, conductor and clinician.Returning to Porto Alegre in 2004, he teamed up with composer and percussionist Esdras Bedai to create the first Maracatu group of his native state of Rio Grande do Sul: Maracatu TruvãoAs a member of Nation Beat, he recorded “Maracatuniversal” in collaboration with Maracatu Nacao Estrela Brilhante do Recife and ”Legends of the Preacher”, with the special appearance of GRAMMY awards winners The Klezmetics. With the band he has been touring the U.S, Canada and Brazil while conducting assemblies and residencies with Universities in Syracuse and Florida.With his wife and Father-in-law, as The Myla Hardie Family Band, he recorded “Waiting for Perfection” with legendary Milton Hopkins and Chuck Rainey and toured in the U.S and Brazil.He is the author/publisher of critically acclaimed book “Brazil for Drum set” (Tunesguedes Publishing).Eduardo is a Vic Firth endorsee and part of Vic Firth’s educational team. He is also part of Young Audiences of New York’s roster of teaching artists.His recent performing and recording credits includes Nation Beat, The Myla Hardie Family Band, Michael Hardie, M’lumbo, Cyro Baptista, Frank London and the Klezmer All Stars, Rob Curto’s Forró for All, Cuzin D, and Viv e os Timoneiros (Brazil)p align=center
