ASSIGNMENT

"DISUNION DENIED" is coming JUNE 2008

About Me

Assignment is an Art Metal Band from Gütersloh, Germany.
Assignment stands for music without boundaries, as our musical influences are spread over the whole Rock & Metal genre. From Death Metal to progressive Rock but having always the focus on the melodies and arrangements...
Our first record Progressive changes has been distributed by our own management and the company Rock Express from Belgrade. We were amazed by the positive feedback. This gave us an endless motivation and was the best reason to go on for the second record.
HISTORY:
It all begun in the middle 90s when guitarist Goran Panic formed his band Assignment. Together with his friend Sven Pollkötter on the drums and several different line ups, the band passed the required process for creating an unique style.
The first two demos have been more Death and Thrash Metal orientated but through time more and more Rock , Power & Progressive elements came into the music without really loosing the focus on the roots and the Assignment sound. The arrival of the new vocalist Markus Brand (ex-GB Arts) was a major step into this direction.
The first Assignment CD „Progressive Changes“ (1000 copies) has been recorded in April 2003 and published by our own management (GP Production). The material was mastered by Michael Schwabe in his "Monoposto Studios" Düsseldorf. Schwabe has already mastered giant productions like Scorpions or Paradise Lost.
Only a few months later, Goran signed a distribution deal with the label “Rock Express” from Belgrade, Serbia. Through their network, a new "Progressive changes" edition (with a new Artwork by Juha Vuarma known for his work with In the Woods, Autopsy & Dew Scented) became available almost world wide. Distribution deals were also made with "Secret Port" for Greece and "Musica productions" for Russia, We were amazed by the positive feedback. This gave us an endless motivation and was the best reason to go on for the second record.
Our long time drummer Sven Pollkötter has been replaced by Hendrik Thiesbrummel (Kingdom Come, Avalon) after his decision to join the Alternative Allstars. Hendrik has already played the keyboards on "Progressive changes" and was our first choice drummer. Gert Sprick became the 5th Assignment member and filled the keyboard position permanently.
After a few shows with bands like Povertys No Crime, Everfest or Orden Ogan the concentration was focused on the songwriting for the second album. The new CD “Disunion denied” has been recorded and mixed during the last year at the same studio as our first CD (Claus Grabkes Studio in Gütersloh). The CD has been mastered in May by our friend Stefan Grundmann.

Influences:
Our influences are spread through the complete history of Rock & Metal music. We call our style Art Metal because we use Power, Progressive, Thrash and Melodic Rock elements to create our (as we hope) unique style. We enjoy to create songs, hard melodic music, without having the pressure or limitations to satisfy one specific subgenre. At the end - it is all about Metal so let the Metal flow...
Sounds Like:
Instead of doing the hard job an to describe our own music, we have decided to present some reviews for our debut "Progressive changes" received after the release (check the links for full reviews):
Strutter Metal Mag Holland - by Gabor Kleinboesem (8.5/10)
This German band distributes their debut CD on a Serbian label called ROCK EXPRESS RECORDS. And without a doubt, this is a HIGH QUALITY release, as ASSIGNMENT is playing sensational Melodic Progressive Metal, reminding me of DREAMSCAPE and 80s QUEENSRYCHE (‘Empire’ record)...
...Opener “Inside of the machine” shows right from the start we are listening to something very good, pure ProgMetal in the 80s QUEENSRYCHE style. Other highlights are “Noisegate”, “Progressive changes” and “When words have no meaning”. Concluded, this is a recommended CD to the fans of quality Progressive Metal.
THE METAL OBSERVER - by Ralf (8/10)
Oho, I got this masterpiece with one year delay. Better late than never because ASSIGNMENT from Westphalia are a true secret tip! Everybody, who digs on true US-Metal a la FATES WARNING, SCREAMER or LETHAL with a dash SOUL CAGES/JESTER’S MARCH, pay some attention. These guys know how to play and they know how to attract aforementioned genre fans.
The powerful voice of vocalist Markus Brand (also known from his works with GB ARTS) plays a big role in this operation. There are not that much German singers, who can compete with him. The other musicians are as well convincing. Please don’t take the term “Progressive” in the title not too serious as the band is (thank God) far away from being progressive: their aim is pure Metal and despite using keyboards and acoustic guitars, the band gets never into Prog Metal! They have little Prog parts but the songs are true, melodic Metal songs and no series of breaks... Maybe the first two songs could be better developed but with the third song, ASSIGNMENT got me!
Everything seems to fit perfectly, it’s technical impressing, it carries you along and it contains much class. With a better production and a capable record label behind them, there could be much improvement! So let’s wait and see! But the 10€ are worthwhile, get this CD
