Kino Sydney is a small underground film night, aiming to become the foremost platform for Sydney's independent filmmakers. These monthly screenings provide filmmakers of all levels and experience with the opportunity to bring their films to an audience outside of the selection-based world of film festivals.

KINO SYDNEY: CHALLENGE YOURSELF
Kino’s motto is simple: “Do well with nothing, do better with little, and do it now!â€. Headquartered in Montreal, the global phenomenon in low-budget filmmaking known as Kino has recently taken Sydney by storm. Australians have been honing their filmmaking skills at the monthly Kino nights for a year now.
With the Kino Kabaret quickly becoming a distant memory faded by Christmas drinks and New Year’s binges, it is almost time for our next screening – Kino 10. With our Kino Sydney filmmakers refreshed, we invite them to show us all what they’ve been doing for last month.
For those that don’t know, our screenings act as an open-mic night for adventurous filmmakers, giving them the opportunity to screen their films to a receptive audience and receive feedback from their like-minded peers. We basically go by the idea: If you make it, we screen it.
The date for Kino 11 is out. Grab your diaries and your pens (no pencils) and cancel all your plans. Kino 11 will be on the 7th of March 2008 and its going to be a big one with projects already in development, filmmakers returning from kinoadelaide Kabaret and 4 challenge films. It will be at the always accomodating Chalkhorse Gallery at 56 Cooper Street, Surry Hills. Kick-off time is 6:30pm. It is 10 at the door, including booze, home-made food, films, music and giveaways. Come and be part of the fun.
If you make it, we'll screen it. Take the plunge and make a film for the evening. You can register a film for Kino 11 now by contacting [email protected]
MAKE A FILM FOR KINO!
Kinos work like an open-mic night for filmmakers. Filmmakers simply register by sending an email with a few details of the film they'd like to screen - length, format, and the Kino screening they'd like to show their film at. In return, filmmakers abide by some very clear rules:
* Films must be on DVD;
* Films must be shown for the first time at Kino Sydney;
* Filmmakers must present their film on the screening date which has been agreed;
* Films must bear the Kino Sydney name or logo at the end, including the screening number in which it is shown (all our monthly screenings are numbered);
Breaking of any of the rules will result in a forfeit for the filmmaker: they must make a film, the subject or form of which will be decided by the audience on the night! A filmmaker must screen his or her forfeit film at Kino Sydney before showing another film.
Kino Sydney is part of an international movement of independent film and video makers - commonly known as Kino - whose motto is "do well with nothing; do even better with a little, and do it right now!". Born in Montreal, Kino has chapters in Paris, Hamburg, Vienna, Manchester, Berlin, Adelaide... and now Sydney!
Shoot a film for Kino, show one you've just finished, or come cheer the ones who do!
