I am a city page, representing the city of Cheyenne, Wyoming. Cheyenne is the capitol of Wyoming, and the county seat of Laramie County, and located in SE Wyoming. It is 8 miles from the Colorado border, and 40 miles from the Nebraska border. My "Big Sister," Denver, is 90 miles south of here. Cheyenne is also the home to Cheyenne Frontier Days, during the last full week of July. Cheyenne Frontier Days is the largest rodeo in the country.
Cheyenne had its beginning in 1867, when the Union Pacific Railroad came through on its way to the west coast. The town site was first surveyed by General Grenville Dodge and was named for an Indian tribe that roamed the area (originally called ‘Shey’ an’ nah’, belonging to the tribe of Alogonquian, the largest family of Indians on the North American Continent). Settlement came so fast that the nickname "Magic City of the Plains" was adopted.
Cheyenne has numerous things to do for tourists. There is the Historic Union Pacific Depot Museum, located in downtown Cheyenne. There is also the Wyoming State Museum, which is free, and well worth the trip. Across the street from the museum is the Wyoming State Capitol Building. Further north, is the Cheyenne Frontier Days grounds, and the Old West Museum, with many "Wild West" exhibits.
