Salty Dog

Dead Or Live It's Your Choice..

About Me

Salty Dog is well known in Durban and surrounding areas and has built up a reputation as a hard-working, professional and entertaining party band. Started by Errol ‘Smelly’ Fellows, Gordon Jackson (Judge) and the late Kevin Mason, the band, which then was a six-piece outfit, played its first un-rehearsed gig at Thirsty’s on 1 November 1996. Taking the name ‘SALTY DOG’, from the Procol Harum song and album ‘A SALTY DOG’. Today, this four member band still astounds and electrifies audiences with two of its original members; Gordon Jackson on Lead Guitar & Lead Vocals, Errol ‘Smelly’ Fellows on Bass, driven by Graham Buckle on Drums & backing Vocals, who joined the band in 2000, and backed by the latest member Mike Jones on Rhythm Guitar & Backing Vocals. The band’s repertoire is varied, ranging from the 60’s to the 80’s and includes various genres, e.g. rock, country, sing a-longs, rock and roll, blues and pop. Attendance records have been broken wherever the band performs – from small clubs to mega concert stages. Some of the venues / events at which Salty Dog has appeared are: The Shark Tank at King’s park, the Richard’s Bay Trade Fair, Thirsty’s, The Bat Centre, Shunters Arms, the Zululand Trade Fair in Vryheid, the Shongweni Festival, the Mervyn Fuller Benefit Concerts in Durban and Margate, the SAMIX Concert, the Dave Jefferies Benefit Concert, the Gunston 500, Ocean Action, the Still Rockin’ Concert, Scallywags, Pistols, Manning Road Children’s Home Benefit shows, 1000 Hills Hotel, Umhlanga Rocks Hotel, Salt Rock Hotel, Bush Pub, Splashy Fen, Champagne Sports Resorts and now part of the official SA Rugby Legends band.Salty Dog believes in entertainment and guarantees fun and festivals!! The Dogs do not play to be ignored – they bark – that means no techno, no rap, no hip-hop, no “granny music” no boy band crud and as Dave McLeod, then with East Coast Radio, said to 12,000 party goers at the Shark Tank “This Band Kicks Arse”!
