About Me

Erica Ordinary is a twenty three year old girl from the suburbs. She grew up in an ordinary double brick house with a courtyard and a garage and a dungeon and many collected things. Now she lives in an ordinary house with a backyard and a stable and two very tall palm trees. She wears her heart on the sleeve of her favourite red coat and keeps the key hidden in the left of her favourite red shoes.

Like most twenty-somethings, Erica Ordinary doesn't know quite what to do with herself, so while she waits she tells stories, sings songs and follows boys on the train.
Erica Ordinary recorded her first demo in her kitchen with a doona, laptop, microphone borrowed from a friend and a computer program she really has no idea how to use. She has just spent the summer holidays and part of Easter in a very good friend's bedroom, and the result is her debut EP, Don't Fall in Love with Engineers. This is now available to purchase from Polyester Records, Collector's Corner and Missing Link Records in Melbourne, as well as online using the paypal button below:

The cost is $8.00 plus $2.50 postage and handling within Australia.

To help Erica Ordinary along on her way you can visit Triple J Unearthed to vote for and review her. Or if you're one of those wonderfully kind musos who would like to offer her a support gig somewhere just let her know. She would be so very grateful.

Autumn

So once again I sit heartbroken. The pieces of my heart tumble down like the leaves of the season and all I can do is watch them settle quietly around my feet. There is no more Adelaide. There are no m...

The bus to Melbourne

He stood on Sunday night and folded his arms around my shoulders, and I realised that the next morning I had to go home. I don't know if he noticed my eyes as the abrupt mist took them over, or the ai...

The bus to Adelaide

I've packed a bag and my guitar. Tonight I am not sleeping, just in case I don't wake up and miss the bus that leaves at 8.30am tomorrow morning. I've rolled my clothes inside my backpack to fit more ...

Dancing

On Saturday night I was spun and twirled around a dance floor by a stranger. He took my hands and told my feet where to go, and in the flurry of dancers around us we laughed and offered up small detai...

The boy who sews

The boy who sews is an acquaintance. He is well dressed and well spoken, and shaves just often enough to be considered rugged but not shabby. He likes to smile when he speaks which makes you think he ...

Melbourne weather

Wood smoke on the wind made me forget for a moment it was Spring.  The late night air was so cold, and the neat little rows of neat little family cars that lined the street were all dressed up in...

Traces

I was stupid and let him leave himself everywhere.  Every room of my house, every song, every bar, every Melbourne street corner, every piece of my clothing, every possible topic of conversation....

Did I say hello?

There's nothing like heartbreak in Spring. The blue of the sky matches my mood indigo and the warmth of the sun the brandy I drown in. Suburban Spring is filled with boys walking topless and girls wal...
