A LETTER FROM ME TO YOU:
Dear Friends,

Countless numbers of amazing notable and local artists have graced the Whisky's stage. These singers have provided the club with well, simply...history. I am endlessly blown away when I hear stories that the owner Mario may tell when he reminisces over a cigar and a glance out of our office windows...stories about Guns n Roses or James Brown or Aretha Franklin or Jim Morrison or Van Halen...the Whisky has been around since 1964. the oldest and most legendary rock club, ever...with the oldest and most legendary stories, ever! I'm blown away when Sting tells me how its been a long time since he last played the Whisky and how nice it is to be back and then I tease him about how we can't afford him anymore, but it's great to have him at least to announce their return...what other club could have hosted The Police to announce their reunion? There is the place it all began for them, for many... and there is no club in all of Hollywood or the world really, who shares even an ounce of history of artists or bands who have reaped success.

The Whisky is the stomping ground - even Eminem, Cold Play, Tenacious D, Travis Mccoy of the Gym Class Heroes, Warrant, Pink Floyd, Macy Gray, Tracy Chapman, Joe Cocker, Godsmack, Korn, you name them, they have a story here. This venue is where it began for many bands and i'm blown away when i get emails or phone calls from thrilled fans from Belgium or Sweden or Japan or London.

I recently saw Henry Rollins in my neighborhood and he told me how he prefers performing at the Whisky over any other club...he mentioned that the feel of the Whisky is unsurpassed in its melting pot of incredible history. Henry also told me that in the 80's, he was "a scrawny kid" [his words] rustling up change to get into the Whisky and now he performs it. He told me that my now office is where the bands dressing rooms once were. my office is also the room that once housed Jim Morrisons handcarved poetry...this poetry is now embedded deep in the walls of my very office...wow! Henry also told me how he heard stories of Jim Morrison being so excited that he jumped on stage and grabbed Bo Diddley's feet. Again, I'm blown away.

This crazy place, this awesome place, this legendary place, this place where James Brown told me last year to book his wife Tomi Rae Brown and he would jump on stage with her. Mr. Brown joked with me that if i booked him by himself, we would have to knock down the walls from the Whisky to the Rainbow (our sister joint about two long blocks away) because we weren't big enough to house his performance anymore. Mr. Brown said he would light this club on fire...and I believed that. His feet, hot! His music, electrifying and speaking of fire, I saw this picture of my office on fire and the Whisky was shut down for a bit of time. Smokin! I wondered about how many of Morrisons poetic ashes drifted into the ether and circulated throughout the Sunset Strip...I'm blown away. The Whisky is like the kitchen of an inviting home. When you are at the Whisky, you have stepped into "the nourisher" of gathering places. It's just a down to earth hometown venue. There's no hoopla here. No bullshit. No pretention. No holes barred. It's awesome in it's low key yet high powered appeal.

The Whisky is where Slash hangs out in the dressing room and invites you to chill with him as if he has known you forever - like some distant but close at heart cousin. In dressing room number two there chills Perry Farrell and Tom Morello and Slash and Robby Krieger from The Doors and the very next night up and coming local bands get excited to feel their lingering presence...I'm blown away even at the bands being blown away.

I'm constantly celebrating in the magic of the Whisky and the happiness it provides its many guests. Tisa our general manager told me how Motley Crue onced lived in my offices. That my four walls, I come to every day and book lovely talent, was once the apartment of one of the greatest bands that ever lived. The real magic of the Whisky doesn't just happen in stories of yesterday, it's happening right now, night after night. You are the future magic of the Whisky a Go-Go. You are the thing that blows me away most - you are the fire in my office, you are the poetry that is disbursed throughout the Sunset Strip, you are the reason there are cheering friends, family, strangers and even me, there to encourage your performance. You are the flame - the pending legacy - the bands, the artist who one day people will get excited to have stepped on the same stage with or chilled in the dressing room as...you are the magic that gives me the greatest joy in coming to work every day and supporting your music every night!... Or at least as many nights as I can. I will sleep when I am dead is my dear friends motto and I suggest you do the same. work hard. the time is NOW.

I honor you, I respect your talent and I look forward to hearing your stories someday. I look forward to you creating a magical and lasting experience that will live on in the historical pages of not only the Whisky's chapters, but the world's book. See you soon my friends!

As long as there has been a Los Angeles rock scene, there has been the Whisky A Go-Go. An anchor on the Sunset Strip since it's opening in 1964, the Whisky A Go-Go has played host to rock 'n' roll's most important bands, from the Doors, Janis Joplin, and Led Zeppelin to today's up and coming new artists.
