SESSIONS ENTERTAINMENT Chief Executive Officer “CL†began his career in the music business at Death Row Records in 1995. At age 19 CL was in Westwood Village, California and ran across Death Row CEO, Marion “Suge†Knight and told him that he was interested in learning about the music business and needed a job. Suge Knight paused, looked at CL with a grin and told him to go up to Death Row’s offices and see Roy (Suge's Assistant). Knight added, “Make sure you tell Roy, i sent ya.â€CL sat in the lobby of the record company every day for two weeks waiting to see Roy. Death Row’s Media Director, George Pryce, passed through the lobby one day, saw CL sitting there and asked him to give him a hand doing some filing. As a result of this confrontation, CL was hired as an intern and worked the next two months interning. He was the company’s runner, going out daily, driving one or another of Suge’s many luxury cars to purchase food from Roscoe’s, Carl’s Jr or Fat Burger. At Christmas time he was sent out with $20,000 in cash to purchase decorations. Having never complained about the menial tasks he was required to perform, CL received a seven hundred dollar bonus check a few days before the holidays and was hired January first of that year to deal with deejays and record pools around the United States. Being in the studio with 2Pac, Snoop, DJ Quik, Daz and other artists made CL want to be a A&R at Death Row.CL was eventually assigned to the promotion department under the tutelage of DJ Kevin Black. One year later, he was heading up the Video Promotions Department, dealing with video shows and all other electronic media. He then did a stint as Assistant A&R Director, working with Roy Tesfay and eventually put together the soundtracks for two of Tupac Shakur’s films, Gang Related and Grid Lock’d.CL spent four years at Death Row Records from 1995 to 1999. He was among the last to leave the falling label. He later began his new career in Artist Management and Artist Development. CL continued to frequent Hollywood’s mainstream club circuit and eventually landed a production deal for his artist.“Four years at Death Row was like being anywhere else for 10 years.†He says, “ The pace at the time when we were the hottest label in the world was unbelievably frantic twenty-four seven.†CL stayed at the company long after it’s initial demise, remaining true to Suge Knight who took him under his wing and exposed him to the avenues that would lead him to learn all facets of the music business. After leaving in 1999, CL says, “I had to refocus and get the hunger back.†Armed with a plethora of experience, CL created Sessions Entertainment in 2001 mainly as a management company. Based upon the success of that entity, Sessions Entertainment, the record label, became a reality in 2005. THE DEATH ROW FAM 1996..
