Auditioned for and won the role as “Benny” in the Broadway play RENT, which he had to turn down due to the time commitment required, as he wanted to pursue his dreams in the music industry first and subsequently into other entertainment endeavors.
Background History:
Jason Derulo is the epitome of the modern day star- young, handsome, energetic, and immensely talented. He is a multi-talented 19 year-old artist who combines natural god-given ability, with years of formal music schooling, to create a unique and exciting style. He is a skillful singer/songwriter/ and talented actor. Additionally he is an adept performer who also choreographs his own dance moves.
Jason, from Miramar, Florida, started attending performing-arts schools in the fifth-grade, and recently graduated from the famed Musical Theater Conservatory AMDA in New York City. This commitment to his career has provided Jason with the opportunity to polish his talent while learning from the best musical and theatrical performers in the world. It has also taught him the hard work, and perseverance needed to be successful in the entertainment industry.
Jason is also an avid performer. He won the 2006 Showtime at the Apollo season finale Grand Championship. He has performed in countless talent shows, winning first prize in all of them. He shared the stage with Michael Bolton for a fundraiing event on Fisher Island, for the Boys and Girls Club of America in Miami. He also sang the national anthem for Alonzo Morning’s, “Zo’s summer groove”- an annual fundraiser, sponsored by many NBA superstars. He was the state champion and a national finalist in the nationally televised NAACP ACT-so competition.
His theater performance as Ken in the famed “Smokey Joe’s Café” at the Broward Center for the Performing Art’s drew rave reviews. He recently beat out two-hundred auditioning hopefuls, and was awarded the lead role in a theatrical performance of the famed play “Ragtime”. Jason loves to perform, and says that “performing allows me to interact and be one with my audience”. At nineteen, Jason has had lots of experience and interaction with the entertainment world. These experiences have encouraged him, and have created an insatiable desire for success in the entertainment industry
