Deadloss Superstar

. . . fuck me! some gigs!

About Me

"Deadloss Mother Fucking Superstar are embracing all those values that made punk what it truly was in the late seventies. It all ends up with stage diving by singer, guitarist and bass player into a writhing heap on the floor while still performing their closing number. This just shouldn’t work. However, Deadloss Superstar deliver their music and live antics with an underlying professionalism and seriousness that shows they are committed to delivering a true performance. This is not five guys mucking about this is five musicians making dangerous energetic music that cuts across all the rock genres. Fans of this type of music really shouldn't let the opportunity to see them perform live go by."
- GigReviewScotland.net
"You will fall in love with this band guaranteed. I mean, basically the sound is like that of an airliner devastating gates 14-32 at JFK airport. Purgatorial salvos of punk-metal played with the ice-cool polish of the Deftones and an RATM-inspired battle-ready momentum charging through to the choruses. It ends with the lead guitarist firing himself backwards off the stage, the rest of the band careering into each other, the cellist carving out metal solos on the A-string with the oblivious demurity of Jacqueline Du Pré and five of the crowd attempting to build a human pyramid on the cusp of the fallout."

DEADLOSS SUPERSTAR TO RELEASE THIRD EP - “LET THE FEEDING COMMENCE”
Deadloss Superstar confirm a brand spanking new release, fiercesomely entitled “Let The Feeding Commence”.
Despite being based freaking miles apart in the Scottish cities of Edinburgh and Aberdeen, the six-piece punk-rock collective have been busy writing and recording their new EP, appointing and brutally moulding the most recent rhythm section, and playing a few gigs across the country. They even found time to pop over to Stockholm for a few shows. They’re huge in Sweden.
The new release, as ever, combines lustful scissor-kicking rock action with mellow acoustic moments and slightly sinister song titles.
INDEED. AND WHAT ARE PEOPLE SAYING ABOUT “LET THE FEEDING COMMENCE”?
Nothing, as yet. It’s not out. Soon though, we promise.

WHAT DID PEOPLE SAY ABOUT THE LAST EP, “FEAR STALKS THE CITY” THEN?
""A mighty fine racket... on this evidence, Deadloss have no need to fear anything, and are ready to take on the world."
- Is This Music?, 4/5
"This kicks the ass of a lot of stuff that passes for popular rock music these days. There's some howling impassioned vocals, lots of riffing and the sort of tunes that make The Kids throw themselves around in crazed abandon. All it needs now is a ridiculous video of them playing in a desert and they'll really be onto something.”
- Diskant.net
"Big speaker busting riffs that bends both time and space... Totally rabid, like the first Clutch LP."
- Insect Rock, 5/5
"Kicks you in the face with distorted heavy guitar riffs and colourful lyrics. I reckon live these guys will scare the shit out of you!"
- GigReviewScotland.net
"With the bass and drums dragging the songs along tightly by the balls, the loose-limbed guitars are left to roar their approval."
-Fudge Fanzine, 4/5
AND THE FIRST EP, “ARE YOU READY TO DIE FOR…?”, HOW DID THAT GO DOWN?
"‘Stars’ is an amazing track that really stretches their abilities to the full. Its easy for a band to pick up guitars and drums and a bass and make a lot of noise, and shout, but to pull off this kind of ballad is sheer genius."
- ElevationStation.net
"It distills everything good about punk, rock, indie and stoner into a fine elixir, and drinks that elixir from Nick Oliveri’s boot. ‘Stars’ is the kinda song that couldn’t be written by Bowling For Soup. It’s gutsy and fragile… it’s the sound of The Bomb being dropped."
- AUBL.net
"Pure unadulterated rock n roll excess"
- Northsound One
"The CD plays in a schizophrenic fashion but the band manage to pull it off, without this ever seeming like some weird compilation. Brilliant.”
- Indigo Flow Fanzine - Demo of the Month, no less :)
SO… A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT DEADLOSS SUPERSTAR THEN...?
Deadloss Superstar met at secondary school and - in an age-old tradition - were united though a shared love of ROCK. Welcoming a cacophony of equally talented musicians into their midst along they way, they continue to meld their sound from an exhaustive list of contemporary and classic influences, such as Clutch, Guns N' Roses, Queens Of The Stoneage, Muse, Alice In Chains, MC5, At The Drive-In, Deftones, Monster Magnet, New York Dolls, Mark Lanegan...
They’ve become rather adept at bounding across the alt.genres, releasing electro remixes, campfire sing-a-longs, and majestic slow burning epics as well as the frenetic punk-rock scissor-kicky riff-monster’s they love. But somehow, often, they sound like a coherent band.
Drenched in distorted guitars, the notoriously entertaining and somewhat unpredictable live show revels in classic rock iconography, and takes foot-stomping onstage enjoyment to levels of performance art. After all, who HASN'T secretly wanted to play guitar and sing while hanging upside from the roof? Or play with power tools onstage? Or headbutt their bassist in the face midway through the set? Exactly, NOBODY!
Their old bassist had to have a testicle removed after a series of onstage mishaps. That’s a FACT. But more about that in the blog...
The band have played with the likes of Gold Blade, Electric Eel Shock, Aereogramme, earthtone9, The Quireboys, Dogs D'Amour, Five Horse Johnson, Gold Cash Gold, Demented Are Go, ThisGirl, Viking Skull, X Is Loaded, Fickle Public, Apes I.Q., Macrocosmica... and loads, loads more of course.

LASTLY, PLEASE TELL ME WHAT DEADLOSS ARE LIKE IN THE FLESH?!
"Deadloss rip off your ears and piss hot acid at you: it’s adrenaline fuelled punk rock, but not as we know it. Everytime I see Deadloss, I always picture them being on fire."
- Audio Dropouts
"That was a great show! But why don't you have any black T-shirts? I have to think of my wardrobe, I only wear black. Get some black T-shirts done."
- Rich 'None More Black' Jones, The Black Halos, ex-Amen, etc
"Thank God for a proper band who look and sound and act like a proper band, even though they are wholly improper in real life."
- Flowback Fanzine
“During their last song, a messy riot of guitars, stomping and free-for-all vocals, I started to get it. Deadloss Superstar are doing something really interesting."
- Diskant.net
“With hardcore riffs, beefy basslines and screams to wake even the calmest of the dead, nobody could escape the carnage that was Deadloss "Mother Fucking" Superstar. I know I shall want to see them again. I dont think I can describe them, or compare them to another band.”
- AUBL.net
“And then: the rock-tastic swagger of Deadloss Superstar. They described themselves as a brutal cross between Guns n Roses and Queens of the Stoneage and that wasn’t far off the mark. They had a guitarist with a cowboy hat on for fucks sake! They got my vote."
- Oz from Earthtone9’s online tour diary
EXTRA DOWNLOADABLE GOODIES!
If you visit our derelict old bandsite, you'll be able to access more Deadloss songs, and a couple of electro remixes...
There's also a few live gig videos. We recommend 'Stars acoustic'. It's got a sofa in it. A fuckin sofa! Genius. I even added it below.
GO HERE: MORE DEADLOSS TUNES AND VIDEOS
Deadloss Superstar: onstage with their sofa...
FINALLY! Perhaps we should also mention that members of Deadloss also promote shows in the Aberdeen area, and run clubnights. They do this under the guise of 'Fudge' (see Top Friends below). Perhaps you fancy a gig swap? I know Deadloss do.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: this is it
Band Members: Good question! It varies.

Normally, six: a singer, two guitarists, a bassist, cellist and drummer. Half the band like to jump off things and pull shapes while Deadloss Superstar are out on the road rocking faces. One has made snapping guitars into an art form and likes to climb things; another apparently likes to flail around wildly in the centre of the stage gasping for breath. The third prefers tossing his tousled blond mane of hair, much like some Norwegian sagaist of old. Of the remaining band members, one stands in the shadows, silently and hopelessly transfixed in his own nightmarish netherworld, one clenches wood tight between her classically-trained thighs, and the other is, thankfully, chained behind the drumkit. For his own safety and yours, ladies. And then there’s a whole host of irregular and additional bassists, guitarists, drummers, harmonica players, saxophonists, flutists, pianists, banjo pluckers, keyboard ticklers and bongo players.

DEADLOSS M.F. SUPERSTAR - we truly are fuckin legion...
Influences: Guns N' Roses, Queens Of The Stoneage, Mark Lanegan, Deftones, Clutch, Alice In Chains, Black Flag, Muse, Afghan Whigs, New York Dolls, Iggy Pop, Mogwai, Low, Janes Addiction, Soundgarden, Backyard Babies, Monster Magnet, Aereosmith, The Wildhearts, Amen, Pearl Jam, Electric Eel Shock, Rocket From The Crypt, Hundred Reasons, John Fruiscante, Jimmy Eat World, Boy Kill Boy, Nashville Pussy, Foo Fighters, Radiohead, Dandy Warhols, White Zombie, Ash, Juno, At The Drive-In, 36 Crazyfists, Rage Against The Machine, The Screaming Trees, Supersuckers, etc, etc, etc
Sounds Like: The Bomb, falling to earth on Judgement Day.
Here’s what other people think: "Purgatorial salvos of punk-metal played with the ice-cool polish of the Deftones and a RATM-inspired battle-ready momentum charging through to the choruses", Soundgarden, Rancid, "A band not frightened to RAWK, no matter how unfashionable it may be", Queens Of The Stoneage, System Of A Down, "Volcanic", Deftones, Helmet, Clutch, Linkin Park, "The baddest, sleaziest, hell-raisin’-est muthas ever seen outside of Sunset Strip", Killing Joke, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mohammed Ali, Mark Lanegan, "Total grunge enthusiasm interlocked with a stoner punk metal rock, totally there with the generation of today", Kid Rock, "Loud, thrashy and thoroughly in your face", John Lee Hooker, Billy Idol, "Memorable massive riffs, thumping bass and clear precise vocals", Fu Manchu, Eighties metal bands, "RAWK with a capital GRR!", Alabama 3, "Sheer joy", Rollins Band, "Adrenaline fuelled punk rock, but not as we know it", Pantera, Seattle circa 1988, Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, Guns N’ Roses, Faith No More, Macrocosmica, "Sleaze", The Foo Fighters, Rage Against The Machine, "Howling impassioned vocals, lots of riffing and the sort of tunes that make The Kids throw themselves around in crazed abandon", and - best of all - "I dont think I can describe them, or compare them to another band."
