About Me

Luciano Fleming was born in Florianópolis, south of Brazil, where, at the age of ten, he learn the first chords at the guitar.When he was a fifteen year boy, his family moved to Porto Alegre, a larger city that had German/Italian colonization. There, he had access to European classical musical culture, having studied Music Theory and Classical Guitar . In 1977, he transfered to the University of Brasilia,at the Center West of Brazil, where he studied Composition under the guindance of Emilio Terraza. In 1982,he assembles a cello -flute- guitar trio that wins a chamber music contest with two compositions of him,that mixed Brazilian folk/popular and modern/classical music influences.It was the Trio Artesanal with the flutist Sidnei Maia and the cellist Pachá Gallina. With this trio he performs extensively from 82 to 89. Beside this, Luciano composed some solo guitar pieces using differents tuninngs, having he even created some of them, l.He leaves the trio Artesanal in 1989. He studied Jazz Arranging with Ian Guest.In 1992 and 1994 he played guitar with the Symphonic Orchestra of the Claudio Santoro National Theatre(OSTNCS)accompanying the famous Brazilian actress and singer Bibi Ferreira. In1994 he ministered a guitar workshop at the "Art Center" of the Amazonas University, in Manaus. He returned there in 95 playing his own compositions and arrangements with a wind chamber ensemble at the historic Amazonas Theatre In the same year the singer Francine Lobo recorded his song "Se você não vier eu choro" with lyrics by Ulysses Machado. In 1996,he accompanyed the Brazilian jazz singer Rosa Passos with the Brasilia Philharmonic Orchestra, at a live concert . From 96 to 99, he turns to his original chamber work and assembles a new cello -flute- guitar ensemble with the name of "Luciano Fleming Trio", which among many others, gives 3 concerts at the "Popular Seasons" promoted by the Brasilia Cultural Secretariat. In 1999 the singer Elisa Alves releases a Cd where she sings his song "Cristal Bem Longe". In 2003,he wrote 2 arrangements for the Brazilian jazz singer Jane Duboc in a concert with the Minas Gerais Symphonic Orchestra in Belo Horizonte, where he also played guitar .The orchestra also played a symphonic medley arranged by him with Ary Barroso songs. In his professional life, he also scored several broadcast and television jingles, the music for 6 educational documentaries , the music of a children play, and he accompannyed the flutist Odette Ernest Dias and the samba singers Zé Keti and Carmen Costa. He now lives in Rio de Janeiro, where recently the songwriter Carlinhos Vergueiro, also a Chico Buarque de Hollanda partner, put words in his music "Choro Tonto". In July 2007,the pianist Haroldo Mauro Jr. played his "Um Samba Assim" in two concerts at Florida, USA.

Sounds Like: "Vento Folha Terra", a composition which structure is beyond of the ordinary song form, is scored for flute,cello and guitar, and sounds like Villa Lobos and Debussy. Jobim of the 60/70 years,with melancholic trombone solo alterning with like Ogerman block-chords in the flutes in "Saudade".. ." Se você não vier eu choro" is a choro that have melody and harmony"influenced by Garoto, with modern lyrics by Ulysses Machado.
