About Me

"To create a sound spectrum on which I'll combine both the electronic and ambient textures, being able to expand them beyond what I think it's fair and obvious, 'cause the simple idea that a single touch makes the difference to what's trully mine, it draws the line between truth and fear...I'll be breaking the barriers!"
(Linear notes on "Underdub: a Soundtrack by Alex FX" released in 1997).
Held as one of Portugal's electronica pioneers, Alex "FX" Fernandes has been developing several works throughout the years, spread across a series of projects that include sound design, editing, programming, recording, pre and post-production, mixing and remixing, mastering, DJ'ing, live performances, soundtracks for short and feature films... and so on.
ALEX FX Biography_
Part I
Born a drummer and self-raised on electronic influences in a country where top charts were led at the time by something like Demis Roussos, it would be obvious that a starting point at the tender age of 12 (in 1982) with focusing on records such like Kraftwerk's "Autobahn", Depeche Mode's "Speak & Spell" (81), Yes's "Close To The Edge" (75), alongside tons of classically extended 12"s versions from names such as Japan, Duran Duran, Talking Heads, David Bowie, Laurie Anderson, etc, would have a side-effect on Alex's musical background. The interest on moving to other level of compositions later on was comprehensive.
The 80's were also a time to pay attention at names like Brian Eno, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Pierre Henry, Bela Bartok, Einsturzeude Neubauten, Fad Gadget, Yello, Bauhaus, New Order, DAF, Nitzer Ebb, Front 242, Bourbonese Qualk, Cabaret Voltaire, SPK, Residents, the 4AD Bunch, more and more Depeche Mode (now in their Berlin phase) and lots of other new stuff, which all meant that for a "teenager" like him at the time it was something really strange at the eyes (and ears) from some of his closest friends and family (while songs like Cliff Richard's "We Don't Talk Anymore" were blasting top-charts across Europe - know what we mean?) :)
