Bong Productions sound system was founded in 1996. Being influenced by the big annual reggae festival in their hometown (Catch a vibe at Reggae Geel), the taste for reggae was instant. Rootstuff, Mourad, Critical and Bong Jr., the soundsystem selectors from the early days were all dj-ing before they started playing the sound, so they already knew the tricks of the trade. In ’98 a new member joined the jugglin team, ’MajeStical’, a dj from Antwerp who has selecting skills like no other, 90’s stylililililee. He left the sound and started MajeStical Productions, a cassette distribution/soundsystem and is still playing in the Antwerp area. Y2K Charlie arrived in the dancehall squad, quickly mastering the skills of MC, he became a true new rising Bong Star. Main selector Rootstuff and Charlie will continue to “reggae-nize†Belgium, Big Bad and Heavy.Over the years Bong Productions organised a number of dances in different cities as Geel, Brussels, Leuven and Antwerp and played alongside international and Belgium’s finest sound systems. Bong Productions’ mission to spread (the love for) reggae music even expanded internationally:
2000 Bong invited the ‘Gentleman Rudebwoy’ David Rodigan to Antwerp
2001 On special request of the Bong Crew Jigsy King came to Belgium ***longside Boombastic and Ricky Trooper feat. Harry Toddler.
2002 Bong Productions went on (an international) tour with Jigsy King and 14K
2005 Bong played alongside Stone Love and invited Delly Ranx
