About Me

It is easy to be impressed by his overflowing lyrics and melodies that deal with life and loving with a sometimes edgy delivery.
Omar Reid, the boy who hails from Kingston, the city of Reggae music, with his cute face, captivating eyes, sexy physique, soulful voice, classy attire, shy guy demeanour and a unique stage act, was born with music in his genes… This talented Singer and Songwriter was influenced at the age of five by his uncle Desmond “Desi Roots” Young, who was then a musician and lead singer of the famous 809 Band back in the 80’s, and now the President of the Jamaica Federation of Musicians. From then, Reggae music had a huge influence on Omar Reid. His early involvement on the choir at the St. Richard’s Primary School proved what would be the inevitable development of a very talented Singer and Songwriter. At the age of ten he decided to pursue a singing career, but his Mother and Uncle didn’t think it was a smart decision, they thought a solid education was priority, despite all that was said and done, this music fanatic secretly began taking vocal lessons to fulfil his true passion in life.

While growing up, Omar admired the likes of some great Reggae and R&B singers, such as Beres Hammond, Half Pint, Junior Tucker, Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder. Omar did his first recording at age 15. From there he started writing and doing background vocals for various Reggae Artistes.

In 2006 Omar entered the JCDC Popular Song Contest with a song written by Mario Lawrence, entitled “Remember the Days”, that depicts what Jamaica was like in the early eras. With his distinctive vocals and unassuming personality, Omar walked away the undisputed winner, putting his name in Jamaica’s music history forever.

In January 2007 Omar was among ten incredible Jamaican Reggae Artistes who were selected to perform at the renowned annual music Festival “Midem”, which is held in Cannes, France. Omar’s performance was outstanding at Midem; he was recognised by the press and many music industry buffs as an Artiste with charisma, and a mellow, smooth vibe.

Omar is taking a smooth approach to a new musical direction with his two latest singles
‘Love Time’ and ‘Story of My Life’ which has been getting major airplay on the reggae stations both locally and internationally. His style of music is suitable with colourful and thoughtful lyrics, which speaks of love and heartache with simplicity.
Omar’s philosophy is: ‘Believe in yourself…you have to believe in yourself before others can believe in you.’ Omar now focuses on carving his niche in the music fraternity.

Currently Omar is in the studio creating smashing singles with Mario (the Mad Scientist) Lawrence, and other producers.

This is Omar Reid.
