Poll: Bullshit Is Most Important Issue For 2008 Voters

A special message from Avatar Media:

H ave you ever wondered why an MP3 of your favorite radio program sometimes doesn't contain music? Well, it's because you're saving a copy of it to your computer and the royalties required by the Copyright Royalties Board (or RIAA) would constitute an add'l expense for the party providing that content. Although music streams are considered a different, more temporary format largely exempt from that rule, it's all changing as there's recently been a flap over rapidly rising rates for providing music over the internet, in total.

SoundExchange ® has cut some temporary slack to a certain swath of i-broadcasters for internet music royalties [see story below], but it's only temporary. So you may wanna do "the clamp down" with your elected representatives to get the message through once and for all. But please do it by Sunday. In fact, SAVENETRADIO.ORG provides info on a congressional bill and a very easy FORM for contacting your Senators in Washington.

This isn't just about streaming radio or getting things "for free". It's about the open exchange of ideas and formats to include music as should fairly be allowed to exist in a digital medium without overly-confiscatory standards, controls and costs applied. I guess compare it to being charged a dollar for every mile of road you drive in your car--after you've already paid for gas, tax, registration and everything else. Or in this case, your iTunes downloads, legal burns, CD's, et al., which you most likely heard about through a free medium referenced above.

Really, the only downside in not saying or doing something now may be a comprehensively shrinking enjoyment/use of the internet--one that may become as irrelevant and limited as, say, your MySpace experience. * You may then throw your f#%king computer out the window and go back to parchment paper and wood blocks for your writing and music.

* To wit, since they're too GD lazy to implement a simple 'rich text editor' in their bulletins and m essages , they've simply disabled HTML in both. Baby/ bathwater, anyone?
So it only stands to reason that the whiz-dorks at MySpace are smarter than we are...and we don't really like to reasonably interact with said methods of communication on par an otherwise godforsaken 21st century--and prefer to be a) restricted to expressing ourselves via some crappy, Simpsons -themed profile; or b) methodically cut and paste like some burned-out, beatnik monkey.
