Original Rough-edged Blues--Delta to Chicago

About Me

WE WRITE THE BLUES. . . .Chicago-based Henry Berry and Charlie Rossiter write and publish blues as the partners of Whiskey Bucket Music (ASCAP). We write all types of blues from primitive field holler and down home Delta road house to Chicago 50's style and beyond. Whiskey Bucket songs are scheduled to appear on albums by Shirley Johnson and Nellie "Tiger" Travis due out in the not-too-distant future. We're interested in working with both established and up-and-coming artists looking for authentic material. If a performer ever hears us and thinks "Hell, I can do better than that " or "man I'd like to do that," that's an attitude we like to hear. We want to see our songs recorded by artists who can take them and turn them into serious get-down blues tracks people want to listen to. Songs posted here reflect the range of songs that we write. To hear 100% classic down-home blues, please check out www.myspace.com/henryberryjr. All Whiskey Bucket songs protected by U.S. Copyright.AND WE PERFORM THE BLUES. . . . As the Whiskey Bucket Blues Review we perform the blues because it is so much fun and as a way to showcase our tunes. Since recently joining forces we've performed at all sorts of venues, mostly around the Chicago area, including the Unity Temple Spring Music Festival,The Orphanage, the Oak Park Public Library, Crown Academy (Chicago Public School), Heartland Cafe, Forest Park French Market and Musicopia, an independent music store in Berwyn, where we also led a discussion on the art of songwriting. We plan to expand the performing in ‘07. . .For more info: 708-660-9376; [email protected]

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: Henry Berry (slide guitar, vocals). . . Charlie Rossiter (guitar, vocals, occasional harp). . . Both Henry & Charlie co-author the songs for Whiskey Bucket Blues Review. . . Frequent Guest: Jack (guitar--often electric; harp; occasional vocals and percussion)
Influences: Henry's main blues hero is Son House. He is also influenced by the other legends of Delta Blues and slide guitar masters such as Robert Johnson and Charlie Patton, Mississippi Sheiks, Blind Willie Johnson,Tampa Red,Mississippi Fred McDowell,Blind Willie McTell, James Houston Davis, Blind Lemon Jefferson. He also acknowledges Chris Walz,Willie Nelson, Mississippi John Hurt. . . . . Charlie admires Lightnin' Hopkins guitar work and for vocals leans toward rough-edged singers like Charlie Patton and Howlin' Wolf. Both Henry and Charlie hope they might someday write a song as good as Blind Willie McTell's "Statesboro Blues."
Sounds Like: Some songs of the Whiskey Bucket Blues Review sound as if they might have been written in the 1920's. Others are reminiscent of the 1950's golden era of Chicago electric blues (Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Willie Dixon) that inspired the Rolling Stones and other musicians across the sea to save rock and roll from degenerating into pop pap.
