Chainsaw Dupont

About Me

Chainsaw Dupont & the Blues Warriors have built a strong following in Chicago by swimming against the tide, performing original material rather than the slew of preferred "classic blues" covers that are favored on the touristy blues circuit. Updating the classic blues with modern sounds, they still retain the soulful underpinnings that have always made the blues work. Dupont made his mark as the 90s touring guitarist for the late great Junior Wells , and has attracted some of the best young musicians in Chicago to his live band. His following includes both traditional blues fans and others who appreciate the musicianship of the band, with a trilogy of alt-blues CDs that pay tribute to the 3 great cities of the blues, Chicago, New Orleans, and now Memphis, with the release of "Ghost Kings of Beale St.". The Memphis CD was recorded at the legendary Sun Studio , and mixed at Chicago's famous Delmark Studio , adding to its blues pedigree.

LYRIC OF THE WEEK 10: KING OF MY HEART

I think it's pretty obvious what caused this song.  I was heartbroken and wrote down the hook lyrics on the back of a bus transfer one day on the bus.  Then I worked up some vocal demos, bui...

LYRIC OF THE WEEK 8: "ALIBIS & LIES"

We went to Memphis to scout clubs and get ideas for the Beale St. record in 2005, and when we went to Beale, we were shocked by how little actual blues was being played there. We had also taken a trip...

LYRIC OF THE WEEK 7: NOWHERE TO GO

I actually met this guy in Chicago's Loop, and he actually told me the story almost word for word as it is in the song. I didn't have money to give him, but oddly enough I was with a label owner at th...

LYRIC OF THE WEEK 6: BluesOMatic"

I had the idea for this lyric a long time ago, but never really followed up on it until we decided we needed a humorous song for the current album. Chainsaw demo'd the track with the first draft of t...

LYRIC OF THE WEEK 5: "RICOCHET"

When I wrote this, I agonized over the lyric for months, doing 5 complete rewrites. I thought I was writing about an accidental drive-by shooting, and with luck and fate as one of the main themes in ...

LYRIC OF THE WEEK 4: SACCHARINE

A composite character of several gold diggers I've met over the years, it was written immediately following a bad experience with the most recent one. The ATM machine line came to me when some drunk ...

LYRIC OF THE WEEK 3: "YOU THINK TOO MUCH"

We wanted to do a zydeco for the Louisiana-themed record we were working on, and although this was originally a play on a Mose Allison piano song, You Talk Too Much, we patterned it on an old Boozoo C...
