"The things that will destroy us are: politics without principle; pleasure without conscience; wealth without work; knowledge without character; business without morality; science without humanity; worship without sacrifice & music without feel." Born in Singapore, 1975, Firdaus Haji or also known as Ferdows has taken his music seriously and has evolved in times. In the late 90s and till around 2004, Firdaus had been in a aggro-rock band, Urbankarma which had then made big name in Malaysia and Singapore. In the early year of 2005, he has taken a great interest in the unique primitive blowing instrument called didgeridoo and has brough it to another progressive level creating a new repoire in Singapore. This is where Katulistiwa was born. The meaning of Katulistiwa is equator is malay classical term. Presently this splendid group will consist of a creative cutting ege sound arises from the aggregation of Firdaus's percussive didgeridoo playing incorporating with explosive grooves of Apiz on the percussion section and Mamat on drums section. The whole basic idea is to connect the unique sound of didgeridoo with drums, percussion and other modern elements to create a variation of many interesting sound-patterns. Some example of its influences will have to come from funk, Javanese, indian's rhythm, rock, tribal and many more bringing all closer together in pogressive manner that result in rock groovy part and as well as also creating melodic soft, dark and spherical sounds at times in the genre of contemporary world pop music.
