Is this profile for real, if so is there an objective?
YES! This profile is for real Tom Perruso is serving 10 years in Folsom Prison, yes the same prison in the Johnny Cash song, "Folsom Prison Blues."
As for an objective, our main goal is to inform people about prison life, as well as notify people about Tom's situation. However, this is starting slow and we have been lacking in the blog department but we do have goals for this myspace profile. This profile also serves as a way for Tom to interact with outsiders as well as outsiders interacting with Tom. So if you see a hello (from TOM) it really is a way for us to let people know that we appreciate them and we hope to hear from them because Tom does get your emails.
What did Tom do?
Tom had the unfortunate opportunity to fight off a crack head one night trying to defend himself and his ex-girlfriend and things went bad. Essentially it's a self defense case and Tom should not be in jail (no Tom didn't kill anyone no one died as a result of the brawl)
Did Tom kill anyone?
NO. (see above)
What is Tom doing now?
Tom is currently working on his appeal he is also working on bettering himself and writing letters to his outside friends (like me! And you if you send him a post card) Tom also has a prison job in the sign shop (that's where they make street signs and plates for your car!) Tom also loves to read.
Do they have internet in Prison?
LOL! No no no no no no no no no.
Who set this profile up for Tom?
That was me! I'm Tom's friend Miranda. I love Tom he is a really great guy and good friend. Tom has always been there for me when I needed him, so, now I'm here for Tom. I do things for him including creating a myspace account where people can learn more about Prison life and befriend Tom. If you want to know more about me check out my profile www.myspace.com/mirandarights
What's new with Tom?
Check out his blogs but honestly not much happens in the big house this is why we don't see many blogs so check back and I will try to make sure from now on there is at least one blog a month.
How can I reach Tom directly ?
Tom likes emails, letters, postcards, greeting cards and books if you want to send Tom something please feel free. Here is the low down on what you can and can't send…
Emails: It takes 4 to 6 weeks to get a response to an email. The reason is, (1) I have to print it out (2) I have to mail it out with other mail or emails (3) it takes about 3 days to get to Folsom Prison from my home (4) it takes another 4 days to ge to Tom because of inspections and such. (5) Tom must read it (6) Tom must respond to the email (7) He must mail it back to me along with other mail for me (8) I have to read it and type it and send it back to you or mail it to you.
This is why email takes so long.
Letters and Post cards: letters take about 2to3 weeks to get a response for many of the same reasons above. If you would like to send a letter pls do so it really would mean a lot to us all if you did; however, there are things you cannot send You cannot send him anything other then a letter so no candy bar in the envelope or nail clippers or anything like that. You can send a picture but only 2 and you can also send magazine clippings and newspaper clippings but only if they do not have glue, wood, or stables in them. Also no self addressed stamped envelopes and no stamps can be sent to tom the only stamp in the letter should be the one you use to mail it with. All letters are to be mailed via USPS no private mail carriers.
Books: yes! You can send books and CD's as long as they are straight from the manufacturer or a company like www.amazon.com or any of the big book companies. Tom loves to read but you can't send him anything that has a map on or in it and you can't send him anything like "how to break out of prison for dummies," "how to make drugs in prison," or "how to kill a correctional officer with a tooth pick." So just be smart if you are going to send him somthing.
Magazines: again must come from a company.
