About Me

I grew up in a remote mountain region of northeast Oregon with little exposure to music except my Swiss father's many polka and yodeling records and the occasional times I could pick up the local country music station. My junior year in highschool I went to Australia for a year and was exposed to a whole world of music - US, UK and Australian. I actually could watch music videos. It was at that time I got addicted to music in general. For years I would follow popular bands, until I lived in Seattle in '89 and was exposed to the then still unknown sounds of grunge. I became an avid record collector at that point and kept going further underground. A year in Holland a couple years later would expose me to Les Satellites and Mano Negra and my interests kept broadening. For a while in the mid-90s, I ran an indie record label, Ruckus Records. It's currently hibernating, but may re-emerge in the future. I kept collecting records from all over and got into old latin rhythm, then balkan, then arabic, then bhangra and at this point, I just take what's thrown at me from anywhere and absorb it into some sort internal mishmash of colorful and vibrant sound. Unfortunately for years, I've been too busy to share my music very much, except for the occasional mix tape series I'd pass on to friends and my once a year series of 9 hour sets at Burning Man in the Pyromid. But now, finally I'm making the time. I teamed up with Gogol Bordello's tour DJ/videographer/debauchery co-ordinator Dimon, and put on series of Gyspy madness nights at local secret discoteque Dunes and avant art club Someday Lounge. Now I'm aiming to put on a once a month event, when I feel I can lock down a play schedule that also fits my insane work schedule. I'm always looking for more, so point me in the right direction if you think I'm missing something awesome. I'm just on the verge of starting to make my own mixes and music, so stay tuned. By the way, I'm relatively new to MySpace, and haven't quite got the "Thanks for the Add" thing down, so if I hit you up and you add me, you're on my list for when I do get that straight.
Pyromid Video from 2002. It was always fun to send off the camp with people dancing. That's me on the stilts.
This year for New Year's Eve I'm part of Portland's premiere gala event, Threshold. Here's a taste of the thematic undertone for the event, music by Solovox. threshold.monkeypuzzle.us
I'm always looking for new and interesting dance music that reflects the culture of the region it's from. If you have any you're inclined to send me, send it to:
