Improving Society One Young Heart At A Time

About Me

For nearly two decades, Cookie Rodriguez has been at the forefront of Dallas' efforts to combat the devasting effects of gang life. She is a reknown anti-gang activist in the city of Dallas. She has earned praise from City Hall and the Dallas Police Dept. Cookie came to the USA in the 50's from Puerto Rico to find the American Dream. But living life in the Bronx was hard and soon Cookie became addicted to drugs. Running life in the streets, using Meth & being homeless was the lifestyle she became accostumed to. Crazy Cookie was her nick name. In 1965 and ex-drug addict that used to run the streets with Cookie witnessed to her and won her to the Lord. TODAY she travels the country speaking to at-risk youth and parents. She is the author of two books, "Please Make Me Cry" and "Cookie". She has 6 years experience as a teen challenge counselor; 10 years as a director of New Life for Girls, (a residential drug treatment center for girls); 11 years as a counselor/speaker for International Prison ministry; 10 years as a volunteer for Texas Youth Commission; 17 years as founder/director of Street Church Academy of Dallas; And developed multiple phased after-school programs. My son Danny Rodriguez also known as D-Boy died on October 6 of 1990 at the age of 22. He was born on November 10, 1967. Me and my husband Demi Rodriguez were involved in an anti-gang violence program in Dallas, Texas. From Puerto Rican descent this gifted rapper rapped about gang life, but also about his faith in God. He was a counselor and tutor at Street Church Acadamy, the ministry we started for teens. He got murdered close to his home.Danny (D-Boy) was shot once in the chest near his East Dallas apartment complex just before 2:30 A.M., It was not known for certain whether he was actually in his car at the time, although after he was shot he managed to drive a few blocks before striking a curb, hitting a pole and fliiping over twice. [...] he died about an hour after the shooting during surgery at baylor University Medical Center as doctors attempted to remove the bullet. No suspects were apprehended for this crime. His producer Tim Miner remembers in the same article that friends encouraged Danny to move to a safer part of town. The police reports were that it could have been mistaken identity or robbery motive. His second album "The lyrical strength of one street poet" was completed a week before his death and scheduled to be released in November 1990. D-Boy is remembered as a man of God in his actions and relelationships and a hip hop talent, that sadly enough never realized it's full potential.Tribute album Although many times D-Boy is mentioned in the credits of holy hip hop albums as an inspiration and example. It was until March 2006 that a tribute album was released. The record is called The Fallen Soldier Compilation : A Tribute To D-Boy and features artists like: Dynamic Twins, IDOL King, Fred Lynch from P.I.D., Lingo, Heata and others I edited my profile at CheckMarkMedia.com , check out these Myspace Layouts!
