Hilton Christopher Young aka "GFSoldier" (II Timothy 2:3-4) a spiritual spoken word artist/poet/writer/stage play actor out of New Orleans, Louisiana now lives in Dallas, Texas as a result of hurricane Katrina. GFSoldier is on fire for the Lord and is passionate about ministering and bring forth the WORD of GOD through the power of spoken word/poetry. He started writing in 2001, a year and a half after the death of his grandmother Helen Bennett Johnson. Writing poetry for the soldier had become a way of escape, and had become therapuetic in dealing with the death of his grandmother. His grandmother raised him after the untimely death of his mother Linda Ann Young at the tender age of six. Being that he was extremely attached to his grandmother, writing poetry was how he kept his sanity. His biological father was never there for him but he is greatful that his grandfather Andrew William Johnson Sr. had some infulence on him to break the cycle/the generational curse. Unfortunately his grandfather passed away two weeks before the storm(Katrina). Eventually writing became a hobby, reading to close friends over the phone, and with persistence, became good at it. Friends suggested the he should go to poetry venues to recite, but the soldier was hesitant ignoring the idea many times. Until one day, he decided to give it a try, and has never looked back since. Now, GF is in the process of recording his first CD entitled "Dissecting The Soul" (Hebrews 4:12). He was a member of the 2005 New Orleans Slam Team which inculded two Def Poets African-American Shakespeare and Sunni Patterson. GF has shared the stage with other Def Poets Big Mike, and Malcom Jamal Warner. GF has also shared platforms with well known poets such as Future, Talaam Acey, Asali Devan, and Queen Sheba. GFSoldier has been various placees to share this awesome GOD-given gift, and never takes the credit for his accomplishments but gives GOD the Glory.
