NNAMDI ORAKPO, age 25: The 2008 Grand Slam Champion of Dallas, A Professor, Doctoral Candidate in Applied Gerontology, Revolutionary, a Single Father, a Writer, an Astronaut, an Activist, and an Artist..anything synonymous to phenomenal.A Nigerian Native, (Igbo tribe) of Owerri Village, Imo State. Began doing spoken word in 2001, at the University of North Texas at Delta Sigma Theta's Lyricst Cafe. Later he collaborated with Flaco and set Dallas, TX on fire with an untamable and unmatched style of verbage. Nnamdi was in the arena to meet, and collaborated with very special talents like Flaco, Von and the SweatLodge, Orron, Kom Plex (DC), Talaam Acey (NJ), Rockbaby, Lamar Hill, GNO, Soul Bol, Twain, Johnnell, Karan Ashley (yellow power ranger), Frances Jaye from Neo Soul Cafe, Rickey Smiley, Steve Brown, and Common Folk!!!Nnamdi dipped into the acting/media scene as he was a special guest on the Sheryl Underwood Show on UPN 21. Later in 2004, he was in a play at the Majestic Theatre called ANCESTREE with Anna Maria-Horsford, from "Amen" and Glynn Turman, and received callbacks from Robert Townsend's audition with the "Love is Deaf" poem and from OXYGEN's "Mr. Romance Reality Show.Nnamdi has traveled to Oakland, San Francisco/ Bay Area, Mississippi, Madison, WI, Long Beach, CA and Manhattan, NY with his fire. He was featured in Atlanta, GA at Apache, a spoken word joint. After blazing every University in the Sate of Texas, Nnamdi moved on to the east coast to camouflage with the Washington DC graffiti in 2005. He was privileged enough to break bread with Mentors Anthony T. Browder and Dr. Yusef ben-Jochanan, authors of Nile Valley and Black Man of the Nile. Baltimore, MD was up the street, so he blazed the mic there too.Internationally, Nnamdi was blessed to travel to Zacatecas City and Guadalajara, Mexico for public speaking engagements at the Congreso Internacional "Un sin Futuro sin Pobreza" (Conference on A Future Without Poverty in 2005. THE VERBOSPHERE TOUR: west coast edition allowed Nnamdi to tour the West Coast with his new volume The VerbOsphere from March 17-25.
