I am here for Friends

About Me

brentrileyart various bits- Chicago, ballpoint pens used as drawing implements (odd scraps of paper, or wood, on which to draw with the ballpoint pens), will be trying drawing/digital (photoshop) hybrids this year, drawings that subvert my inclination toward obsession for finish & details, Eric Rohmer, Asian horror movies, cats, China Mieville's Perdido Street Station, the novels of Patrick White & Russell Hoban, Thomas Pynchon's V, fetish art (things used as they cannot be used), Balinese art, Vali Myers, Jean Cocteau, Richard Dadd, Art Brut, Kandinsky, Harold Pinter, John Carpenter's The Thing, odd and noisy music and/or sounds, forests, cool weather, sticks- sometimes made into objects (can't really say they're sculpture). I started to make a list of artists, musicians (composers), authors, and etc., but quickly realized that it would grow to a length to which no one would have any real interest.

My Interests

art (Drawing and Painting), hand-drawn and computer hybrids (taints- t'ain't this and t'aint that), hijacked internet photos, assemblage, animals (cats & dogs), film, sound: music & non-music, amateur storywriting, thrift shops (1000's of stories there), hardware stores (lots of ways to misuse the products), early Italian painting (tempera), Mughal miniatures, Persian miniatures, 50's fetish art (the mechanical encrusted on the living), Alfred Kubin, Klee, Hiroshige, Hokusai, Yoshitoshi, Max Ernst, Toyen, Karl Wirsum, Mantegna, Fortunato Depero, (Italian Futurists), Keiti Ota, Le Dernier Cri, Hopital Brut, Suehiro Maruo,...
