About The Director
Born in South Africa and raised in Sydney, Australia Marc Furmie nurtured the dream of becoming a filmmaker since early childhood. Having studed Fine Art at university and creating several small shorts, Marc turned to shooting music videos for local indie artists as a way to hone his craft and develop his storytelling abilities. A screenwriting internship with a producer from Lucasfilm Ltd. further allowed him to practise screenwriting whilst in the midst of the most inspiring filmmaking environment in the world. He was also able to meet one of his heroes, George Lucas.
Since 2006, Marc has been working with TVC production company Flying Fish ( www.flyingfish.co.nz ) and their subsidiary music video division Fish N' Clips ( www.fishnclips.com ) . He has directed spots for clients such as the Amnesty International, the Australian Broadcast Corporation, RSPCA, WIRES and Arthritis Australia. His music video work has been for labels such as Sony/BMG, Ministry of Sound and Warner Music.
In 2005 after four previous failed attempts (due to lack of finance) Marc was finally able to realize his dream project; a 30-minute short thriller entitled "Death's Requiem", following a dying comic-book artist who is haunted by visions of the Grim Reaper. The Australian Film Commission granted the film finance under its Strand H initiative greenlighting the highly ambitious film. Shot on Super 16mm film over 10 days the film is his proudest achievement yet. Starring Jai Koutrae, Bruce Spence (Mad Max 2, Star Wars Ep:3, The Matrix Reloaded) and Alin Sumarwata. The film has so far been accepted in several international short film festivals including MethodFest, Swansea Bay Short Film Festival and Newport Beach Short Film Festival among others.
Marc cites amongst his influences directors such as David Fincher, Darren Aronofsky and Wong Kar Wai. He is currently developing his first feature film.
