About Me

A new year, new challenges!
Last year I had the privlige of playing in some very nice bands/projects: Billie King, Briskey Big Band, Rubik’s Cue, Eva De Roovere,… This autumn I had my last tour with Eva. I had wonderful time playing her lovely music and wish her all the best!
We are on a bit of a break with the Billies too. Tine’s working on some new material, but I’ll keep you posted..
A new year asks for new challenges and one of them will surely be the theatre music Bert Hornikx and me will be writing for “Osama The Hero”, a play of the young British author Dennis Kelly, that will be performed by De Queeste.
Most of all I’m looking forward to lots of inspiring musical encounters that will sweep me off my feet!
My fingers are itching to play :)
Biography
On my fifth birthday I received my first instrument, a guitar. I fell in love with it instantly. It was a that time also that I wrote my first tune about some new car my parents bought. It think the lyrics and the chords are still laying around here somewhere. Somehow I have always been surrounded by music as a kid, my father being a musician.
Growing up I started playing the piano and I joined a few bands. Playing some Rock&Roll, oh yeah. But my interests changed. After hearing the record Kind of Blue (Miles Davis) I knew I wanted to learn to play jazz. But most of all I realized I wanted to be writing and performing music for the rest of my life. Waking up next to it, spending my day with it and going to sleep with it.
I studied Master in Jazzpiano and Master in Jazzcomposing/arranging at the Conservatory of Maastricht and attended lessons with Frank Giebels, Wolfgang Braun, Claudius Valk,.. as an exchange student with Nathalie Loriers, Jozef Dumoulin, Harmen Fraanje, Leon Lhoest, Marco Lackner,.. I am very grateful these wonderful people crossed my path and I still learn from them every day.
After a long stay in Maastricht, I moved back home last year to join Tine Reymers band Billie King and Eva De Rooveres band. Two very nice ladies with great talent. Be sure to check out their music!
Apart from pop and rock music I have my own jazzquartet, Rubik's Cue where I am surrounded by some extraordinary musicians. We play mostly originals of mine. You can listen to some tracks on this website.
At Jazz Middelheim 2007 we played the last concert of a tour with the Briskey Big Band. Masterbrain Gert Keunen united a big band to perform his "briskey" music with. Hopefully we'll tour again soon in the near future cause it was a great deal of fun!!!
Finally I also do some freelancing as a pianist and composer/arranger and I teach at Muziekodroom in Hasselt. A very nice environment with excellent facilities for young musicians to hang. Love spending time there.
Hope to catch you on one of my gigs,
Best regards,
Sara
