Anavarin started in the spring of 2005, when schoolfriends Susan and Tom joined forces to make music and write songs in an old soggy basement. Soon they were joined by Niek and after that Guus completed the band. Armed with a lot of energie and devotion they started to write their own songs. After a short period of composing and rehearsing Anavarin created a style of it’s own. The music, best described as alternative rock with sometimes a little metal and stoner, is influeced by bands like Queens of the Stone Age, Anathema, Auf der Maur and Porcupine Tree. The diffent types of songs are carried by heavy drums, guitar-riffs and a lot of dual vocals.
In september 2006 Anavarin recorded a live-demo at the New Road Studios. ‘Among the Crowd’ contains four own songs which are representive for what Anavarin does on stage. The choice of recording a live-demo was deliberate: no adds of overdubs, just a honest recording. ‘What you hear is what you get’.
After winning the Schoolbands A Gogo festival and second places in finals of the Stagemasters contest and the Roos van Nijmegen (they did received the most audience votes), Anavarin decided to go on: busy with composing and performing they are forcing their way into Nijmegen’s music scéne, hoping to see you at one of the shows.
A new demo is going to be recorded in october, hopefully all mixed & mastered somewhere in december, we'll keep you updated!
