About Me

originally from wales in the united kingdom, I moved with my parents to a town near london, I grew up listening to my mothers favourite discs - Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Lonnie Donegan, The Shadows, When I was around 12 years old I was the solo singer of my school but as I got older the classic christian hymn recitals held no interest for me, thanks to a modern minded music teacher I found myself playing bass at the end of my school years, but when school ended the music ended with it. a few years later I took up guitar and quickly found a new source of motivation in the acid jazz wave, but like the drug scene of the early 90's, there was a little too much acid in my jazz, from there I discovered Jimmy Smith, Lou Donalson, Grant Green, Jimmy Mcgriff amongst others and became interested in the artists who influenced them moving backwards through the history of jazz, at a jazz workshop where I was the only guitarist amongst 15 horns, I decided to learn the tenor saxophone, a year later I was playing sax in a local blues band, It was around this time that I discovered artists such as Louis Jordan, Louis Prima, Sam Butera, and Red Prysock In the year 2000 I had the opportunity to be in France, and before long I had met many great jazz and blues musicians, I helped to create a five peice band "big charley and the boogie men" playing a lot of louis prima covers In 2004 I worked with a 7 peice swing/rhythm'n'blues band called "Little Big Band" a group strongly influenced by louis jordan, I formed my own quartet based in the same style - jordan, earl bostic, t-bone walker, red prysock in 2006 I had the pleasure to work with the french blues group "The Hoodoomen" and at the moment I play with some of the musicians from the hoodoomen in my own group "The Drew Davies Rhythm Combo" and we have recently produced our first album "ten days ten nights" with 14 original tracks, I also play from time to time with the french pianist Julien Brunetaud, and have had the pleasure to work with some of the best musicians from the blues/swing scene in paris, I'll be working on a new project towards the end of this year, a tribute recording to the great guitarist Tiny Grimes
