Dawn In The City was beaptifyzed in the summa of 2006 as the brainchild of ex-Her Alibi multi-instrumentalish Bernie 'Cityrat' Castillo and ex-Borderline drummy Andrea Dawn. In the shade of a dusty Edmonton basement, with alleycats and riff raff lurking overhead, this project started out as an excuse to jizzam and to get away from what we previously called our regular lives. With collabatators Adam J on flamin' lipocaster and Craig Gutbucket on a big ol' bass fish, we started groovin to reggae and ska just to get the mf' boulder rolling.Pretty soon we had created the first wave of Dawn In The City. We played both covers and originals, strivatistifying to be really funky, rhythmic, organic, free and natural but still tight and precise, a groovy little hippy reggae outfit with an MO on peace love and good times.We moved out of the hella cellar and began our 'garage days' so to speak. By courtesy of another group's 'generosity' (ultimate thanks to falling races and dying breeds) we landed our first show at On The Rocks in downtown Edmonton in October of 2006. Soon after, Adam J departed for greener pastures. We tapped the tall talent of Mike Blessin' from the mind munchin' metal band Don't Know and complificated our cool, cool current lineup.We continued on groovetastically fluidicizing, appearing in pubs, clubs, tubs and whatnot, changing jam spaces with every 1000 kilometers or so. Andrea poured punk in the tank, Mike adjusted the twangshaft, Craig funnycarred the suspension and Bernie got out the soul wax and a mojo stroker. Two years later, we 're still hard at it, drilling and skilling to extract the chunks of bitumenous audio gold that will come to define the Dawn In The City sound, present and future.This year we decided to get out from inside under the down low and get above where the action is at. Dawn is all about the hooks and none of the hangups. So we want yall to hurry here and dig the crazy City! Pretty soon, cats, everything might blow up in shitterworks. Don't delay, fools.
