sculpture, photography, music, dance, drums, late night talks, yoga, nyc, motorcycles, literature, renfaires, travel (let me out of this puritan nightmare, please!), exotic foods & good wine, porn, all things eastern or fuzzy or sharp & pointy
Me, only male. Oh, hell, female too. Rock stars, porn stars, art stars and sexy geeks. Adventurers, philosophers and risk takers. People who revel in using proper English. The brain is the body's largest sexual organ. Turn me on ;)
Dating-wise: ...that rare combination of true beauty, inside and out, with a sharp mind and loyal heart. Not someone perfect, but perfectly flawed. An offbeat polyamorous Jewish intellectual with an insatiable sex drive, if a second one exists somewhere out there (I can't be the only one, right?). I may be utterly committment-phobic, but I leave room for cosmic connections. Creative people only, please, or you will find me exceedingly odd.
I'm always happy to meet more artists and performers to add to my circles. Please send me a message if you'd like to make contact. However...
PLEASE DON'T PROMOTE TO ME. I will not check out your rock band or go to your show in some bar. I don't respond to MySpace marketing. I also don't collect cyber-friends and will not add you as a friend unless i actually know you (yes, that includes bands and performers in my list--they're my friends offline, too). So if you don't know me and would like to, please apply common sense before writing: i.e. please be within somewhat probable age and geographic range (28-35 & within tri-state area), have at least a somewhat similar outlook on life, and have a photo in your profile. I have a crazy lifestyle and cannot keep pen pals. I am a visceral experience kind of girl: e-contact won't do for too long.
Whom I DON'T want to meet:
Anyone who would describe him/herself as "average," "nice" or "clean cut."
Anyone who has no description or photo of themselves in their profile.
Anyone who hasn't bothered to read and understand my words and is trying to just get me in bed with a canned message.
And yes, i've been called a bitch before. but those who actually know me would call me a variety of other, more pleasing, things.
from the overflowing ipod: trip-hop--lush female vocals over a chunky breakbeat. yay syncopation! portishead, bjork, massive attack, ebg, fsol, lamb, olive. non-trip hop: beatles, st germain, nina simone, billie holiday, chet baker, brad mehldau, many many non-western sounds, especially middle eastern. movie soundtracks and scores. random compilations and odd finds.
lately i've been exclusively in the company of the wonderful bands linked to me here: the luminescent orchestrii, the wiyos, many talented others. been exposed to some kick-ass gypsy punk/circus/oldtime experiences in nyc, thanks to these amazing musicians. the ipod has been long neglected in favor of the live experience. just try barbes on any given night of the week--or any of sxip's variety shows. you won't be able to fully return to recorded music either.
love kevin smith, and just about anything gary oldman has touched. interview with the vampire/natural born killers never seem to get old for me. the cook, the thief, his wife & her lover, quills, dark city, swimming with sharks, fight club, la confidential, memento. LOTR (geek!). classic russian movies and cartoons, 60s-80s, that i grew up on (three musketeers, obyknovennoye chudo, troye v lodke ne schitaya sobaki, any operettas made by the Odessa studio)
i don't watch tv--i don't even have the basic channels. i do miss will and grace & sex in the city from my tv days... and, of course, the simpsons. Used to watch the kids in the hall obessively, too.
I'm a total book worm, time permitting, and have been since I learned to read at 5. My favorite childhood books: Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass and Three Musketeers. I favor classics, but have a particular weakness for any compelling, imaginative, sharp prose. Clever, yes, but while people like Sedaris are pure candy fluff, I prefer my authors with a bit more bite. And perhaps more of a social and cosmic anchor. Bradbury, Robbins, Adams, Vonnegut, Updike are some of my favorites...and Gaiman and Pratchett are ones I can devour in one sitting (oh that dry brit humor). Russians: Bulgakov, Ilf & Petrov (I'm from Odessa). I love historical fiction and well-written non-fiction, and, when younger, simply devoured all [good] science fiction within my reach--Verne, Asimov, Clarke. No fantasy, though--not part of that geek camp.I tend to read in writer collections, as I discover (or rediscover) a particular author. Went through a few Cristopher Isherwood books last year: delicious, detailed, exact writing. I seem to go back to Jane Austen on a regular basis: supremely witty and smart, and quite subversive in the context of her time. Latest great book I've encountered: The Island at the Center of the World, about the history of Dutch Manhattan. Lovingly written, and with a New Yorker's sharp tongue. Which got me right back on the historical kick, so I'm back to the Lymond Chronicles (soooo good) and random non-fiction books. Also just read Thank You For Smoking, and could not put it down. Hilariously well written.Got anything to recommend?
