In the fall 1996 two young boys from Örsundsbro came up with the idea to form a group. Magnus Mjöbäck and Jens Lundin, who at the time were only eleven years old, found their way to the rehersal place of Rockheaven and started to play. Soon after, Jonas Hoffman and Christian Larsson joined the band and Rest In Peace was born. They got a lot of help from Mikael Dagobert who worked as a musician at Rockheaven Palace. The line up back then was:
Magnus Mjöbäck - drums
Jonas Hoffman - bass
Christian Larsson - keyboard
Jens Lundin - guitar
And it was Micke who became temporary vocalist and he also played some guitar with the band. Straight from the beginning they played hard and heavy and with an attitude that is rear to find in so young musicians. They played a list of some blues tracks and some covers by famous hardrock bands like KISS and Europe and everything was played very LOUD! Soon the first own song was written and it was called "Sommaren -97" (Summer -97). Actually it was a pop/rock track even thou they only played hardrock covers.
The first R.I.P. gig ever made was the 16:th December -96 followed by a Live Aid consert later in March -97. The heavy music and the loud volume was a concept that made R.I.P. so special and no matter what people thought, no one were left untouched.
In 1997 the band kept their good spirit and after some gigs in Örsundsbro it was time to enter the stage of Lagundagården, were a young and enthusiastic audience waited.
In time, Magnus noticed that he hadn't the time a band takes and the bass player Jonas Hoffman, who had surprisingly good drumskills, took his place. A, for us, former known bass player named Jens Fredriksson were asked to join the band and he gladly accepted. As the Metallica influenced player he was he showed that he had a lot to contribute to the band as they were about to make their first larger gig at an annual event in Örsundsbro called Mickelsmäss.
The years went on and R.I.P. was planning to compete in a music contest called Musik Direkt and they needed a singer that wasn't older than 19. Many bands had gone through Rockheaven Palace but since some time back Metal Fusion were rehersing there. Metal Fusions vocalist and keyboardist Daniel Tjernberg was a suitable candidate, so he joined up. With Daniel on the vocals R.I.P. made it to the countyfinal which opened a lot of doors and resulted in more gigs at bigger events. The band was now a complete unit and it's in this chap we try to launch R.I.P. in all directions.
After the release of 'Erupt In Flames' Rest In Peace noticed that there was other bands that carried the same name. So in 2005 RIP changed their name to Dark Legacy.
